Happy Memorial Day! As we pause this weekend to remember and honor the sacrifices made in defense of our great nation, we also look forward- to grilling season, beach parties and endless sunshine. After all, this is also the unofficial start of summer. Start stocking up on your summer party needs now. We have all your favorite porch/deck sitting wines, pool side summer beers and sparklers for all tastes!
Just a reminder- we will be closed Monday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day.
Feature Item Please indulge my love of Orin Swift once more- for their latest release, Mannequin, a 2011White Blend for $32.99 a bottle. Mannequin is a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Semillon, Muscat, and Marsanne that has been aged in oak and stainless steel for a total of 14 months. It is a bright yellow color with aromas of honeysuckle and ripe apples. David Phinney describes it as ripe, round and exotic with flavors of pineapple, citrus and a lingering finish. Grab a bottle to pair with your Memorial Day picnic!
Tasting Info This week’s wine tasting will feature two La Merika wines from California’s Central Coast and two store favorites- Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc (written up in last week’s newsletter) and Josh Merlot. A little something old and something new…
This week’s beer tasting will shine the spotlight on some lesser known beer varieties. We will sample a German Dunkel, an ESB from Arcadia Ales, a triple hopped IPA, and finally a blueberry brew from Rivertown.
As always, for the complete list, please click here.
Dan’s Pick This week Dan’s pick are Shebang Sixth Cuvee Red and Cuvee II White, both blends from Bedrock Wines in Sonoma, California. These wines are both “negociant style blends” meaning they are made from grapes grown throughout California. The Sixth Cuvee Red is an easy drinking combination of Syrah and Zinfandel with jammy blackberry flavors. The Cuvee II White is a floral, dry white made of 60% Pinot Gris, 25% Muscadelle/Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc that has been aged in both stainless steel and French oak. Both wines are marketed to be everyday drinking wines that will please a crowd or pair wonderfully with a week night meal. At $13.99 a bottle, they are a true value too!
Final Thoughts Don’t want to have the summer get-together at your house? Come have it at ours! Our patio is the place to be on summer nights (or lunch hours, or anytime) in Findlay! As if you needed more enticing- we even have Coyote Gold frozen popsicles!
Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!
Cheers!

How do you measure a year? In Daylights – In Sunsets – In Midnights – In Glasses of Wine In Inches – In Miles – In Laughter – In Strife
To continuing paraphrasing “Seasons of Love” from the musical, Rent, it has been 525,600 minutes (or one year) since we officially re-opened after the Argyle Fire (May18,2012). It has been a great year too; full of friends and fun! We couldn’t have done it without you. As always, thank you! We hope you will join us in raising a glass to many more great years together!
This is a great way to sample many beers without a commitment! Come mix & match your six today!
Dan’s Picks This week Dan is recommending 3 wines that have all attracted the attention of Wine Spectator magazine too. The first is Castle Rock Cabernet Sauvignon- $9.99. This full-bodied wine comes from the southern facing hillside vineyards of Columbia Valley, Washington that share the same latitude as the Bordeaux region of France. It has flavors of dark fruit and cassis with a hint of oak imparted by 18 months of aging. It received 87 points in this month’s Wine Spectator meaning it is Very Good- a wine with special qualities. This one is also a true bargain!
The next pick is Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc- $26.99. This wine from New Zealand was once touted as the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world. Dan did his own tasting investigation and while the best in the world claim was neither confirmed nor denied, he did learn that Cloudy Bay pairs wonderfully with seafood and recommends all Sauvignon Blanc lovers give this wine a try!
Dan’s final pick is Baby Blue Red Blend- $27.99. This California estate red blend is 52% Cabernet, 25% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 10% Syrah. It has been aged in oak barrels for 16 months, is bottled unfined and can be consumed right now or aged. This wine is very approachable, smooth and easy drinking!
Final Thoughts
We, at the Wine Merchant, measure a year in new wines & beers brought in and enjoyed, patio tables seated and smiles of satisfied customers. Thank you again for your support and patronage this past year.
Cheers!

It’s here!
Orin Swift’s latest Locations wine, “I” has arrived! “I” is David Phinney’s latest red blend from Italy. Like he has done for all of his Locations wines- Phinney scoured the chosen country for the best grapes from the best locales and made a crowd pleasing, easy drinking blend. “I” is advertised as a blend of Negroamoro, Nero d’Avola, Barbera and native varietals of Puglia. It is a deep scarlet color with aromas of dried lavender and toasted oak. It is bursting with flavors of ripe dark fruit, a hint of spice box and just the right amount of acidity. This wine has been barrel aged for 10 months giving it velvety soft tannins. The Orin Swift website describes “I” as “a vibrant wine that captures the spirit of Italy with a touch of new world bravado.” Come enjoy this new wine, located on our Orin Swift rack, for $18.99.

Feature Item
In honor of National Moscato Day, we are featuring Santero’s Rose Moscato. This is a beautiful bottle of delicately sweet Italian sparkling wine with fruity notes and a big bouquet. This wine is made from Moscato and Moscato Rosa- an extremely rare varietal. If you like moscato’s that aren’t heavy, syrupy, highly carbonated or high alcohol this is the bottle for you at $14.99. It is the perfect way to celebrate the 2nd Annual National Moscato Day!

Dan’s Pick
This week Dan had SO many picks, we had trouble narrowing it down. Here’s what we came up with…

Col Solare- 2007- Washington. This red blend is a collaboration between Tuscany’s Marchesi Antinori and Washington’s Chateau Ste. Michelle. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. We get this wine once a year when the price drops from $74.99 to $41.99. Last year we ordered 6 bottles and received 6 cases, but promptly sold them all. This year we ordered 5 cases- but it is already going fast!

While in Chicago this past weekend for Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour tasting (200 wines in 3 hours) Dan discovered Belle Glos Pinot Noir from Clark & Telephone Vineyard. While it is a bit pricey- it is completely worth it. Dan describes it as over the top and outrageously good! This Pinot Noir is from the maker’s of Meiomi. If you have loved Meiomi- try this- it is their top tier Pinot Noir. It is described as an elegant wine having rich fruit flavors and notes of spice-box. It is $45.99 a bottle and would make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift!

Final Thoughts
Don’t forget this Sunday is Mother’s Day! Is your mom hard to buy for? Let us help you pick out something she is sure to enjoy! Besides the obvious beverages, we also have Rothschild dips/sauces/spreads, Taso organic chocolates, gourmet meats & cheeses and there are always gift cards- that can be used for store purchases, tastings and/or at Uncorked. As always, we’ve got you covered!

Cheers!

T-minus 7 days and counting…

Yes, the patio is still on schedule to be open by Friday, May 3. (If you’re reading between the lines that does mean it could be open sooner…) Regardless of the weather- we will have tables, chairs, umbrellas and hopefully patrons outside soon! Along with the patio will come some new food and drink specials too. Stay tuned to next week’s newsletter for all the yummy details.
To tide you over until then though, back at the bar we have 3 exquisite red blends from Kuleto as glass pours for $10 each- Frog Prince, India Ink and Native Son. Come and enjoy! Calendar of Events Saturday, April 27- 4-5pm- ReWined- kickoff tasting and 6-8pm- live music from Aaron Peterson
Come have a “HeyDay” with us at this week’s beer tasting. Besides that new brew from Great Divide, we will also try the 2 new brews from Triton and attempt to coax summer along with a seasonal from Shipyard!
As always, for the complete list, please click here.
Feature Item This week’s feature item, although somewhat local, is new to us! Maumee Bay Brewing Company now graces our beer shelves. Currently, in stock we have Amarillo Brillo Double IPA, Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout and IPA. For those of you unfamiliar, Maumee Bay microbrewery was founded in 1995 and set up operation in the historical Oliver House in Toledo. To be classified as a microbrewery, they must produce less than 15,000 barrels of beer a year. Therefore, instead of focusing on mass production, Maumee Bay is committed to quality over quantity. We are excited to add another Ohio beer to our selection and hope you enjoy it!
Dan’s Pick Dan has set up his picks in price tiers this week. In the first tier is Cable Car Chardonnay from Lodi, California for $10.99. This is a bold yet creamy wine full of apple and pear flavors with a smooth finish. The second tier is McNab Ridge Red Blend from Mendocino County, California. This wine is 59% Zinfandel, 39% Petite Sirah and 2% Pinotage. Only 65 cases of this wine were produced and bottles usually sell for $35.99 but have been marked down to $24.99! The third tier is Chateau Montelena, Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California for $49.99. This is the winemaker that beat the French in the famous Judgment of Paris blind tasting of 1976. No matter your price range- Dan has a great recommendation for you!
Final Thoughts Don’t forget if you are looking for a specific wine or beer, stop in or give us a call. If we don’t have it, we will certainly do our best to try and get it. We have lots of connections and our turnaround time is usually quite short. If you’re on a deadline- just let us know. We are happy to join your search for that special drink that elicits great memories.
Speaking of memories- does anyone remember what spring should look like?! Hope to see it, the patio and all of you soon!
Cheers!
