News 🗞
To honor the Olympics in Paris, we are going French for this weekend's food special... Steak Frites! This is a classic French dish (that actually originated in Belgium, but keep that to yourself) that you can find in any brasserie.... steak, frites, and usually some kind of sauce. But don't let its simplicity fool you... it's packed in flavor. Our frites are fried up in wagyu beef tallow, and it doesn't get much tastier than that. For the beef, we are using the beautiful Teres Major cuts we've been getting in. I don't know if you realize, but this is a cut of beef you hardly ever see, and we got it at such a good price. The Halibut Cheeks we had in last week? They are not something you ever see in the lower 48 (according to an actual Alaskan fisherman). And the Bluefin Tuna? Who gets that besides high-end sushi restaurants? We have been working hard and searching far and wide to find these incredible products at bargain prices for you, so when we tell you something is special... it really, really is. Especially for Findlay, Ohio. And on that note, I wrangled a heck of a deal on some wine that I will hopefully be able to share by the end of the week, so keep your eyes and ears peeled...
Wine Feature ⭐️
I went to a wine show last week and got to try some fantastic wines, among them Neyers 2020 Sage Canyon California Red Wine. It's named as such because it utilizes grapes from all over California... Napa, Monterey County, the Sierra Foothills, and beyond. Bruce Neyers, who founded the winery with his wife in 1992, spent years searching for grapes and locations in California that he could combine to create a red blend similar to the greats of France's Rhône Valley. This bottle contains old-vine Carignan and Mouvèdre from Napa, plus Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah from other parts of California. The fruit was hand-picked and crushed by foot, fermented with native yeasts, and aged for 18 months on neutral French oak to make a wine that's as authentic as possible. It is a classic Rhône combination of fruity, savory, and spicy, with notes of wild cherries and blackberries, vanilla, ginger, allspice, and a hint of black pepper. It is smooth and well-polished, all around an excellent bottle for $35.99. Of all the wines in the store, this is the one I took home to drink last weekend.
Wine Pick 🥂
If you were able to attend our wine tasting last Friday, then you got the chance to sample this fun little wine: Toad Hollow 2023 "The Orange Toad" from California. This is an orange wine, which does NOT mean a wine made from oranges, contrary to popular belief. A little lesson... normally when making a white wine, the grapes are crushed and skins, seeds, etc. (the "must") removed; not so with orange wine. Orange wine is made from white grapes, but it spends a short period of its fermentation in contact with the grape skins which impart an orange hue and can completely change the profile of the wine. They give it a different flavor, more heft, some tannic influence. This bottle is a subtle orange wine... it's comprised 64% Chenin Blanc, 14% Muscat, 9% Grenache Gris, 8% Pinot Gris, and 5% Grenache Blanc. It's light orange, almost rosé in color, with notes of peach, tangerine, and orange blossom. It's light and refreshing and, at $15.99, an easy choice for something new and interesting to drink on your patio for the remainder of the summer.
Food Features 🥩🌭
I don't often feature a frozen item, but this one is too much of a steal to pass up... Frozen 6oz Center Cut Filet Mignon, a 2-pack for $18.99. So 12 ounces of Filet Mignon for under $20. These steaks were cut for Black Rock Bar & Grill and because of an overproduction, we get to reap the benefit. As always, I am passing the deal I got along to you. As you probably know, Filet Mignon is widely regarded as the best cut of beef from a cow. It is the small end of the Tenderloin, so it bears little weight and has minimal connective tissue, creating a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The king of steaks. And then, due to popular demand, we brought back in our Fresh Wagyu Hot Dogs. 5 packs for $11.99. Are these the best hot dogs out there? We wouldn't dare make such a claim... but some of you would, that's good enough for us.

Final Thoughts 💬
Well, all it took was a tornado or two, but the air has finally cooled down a little outside. Now if only the humidity would follow suit... it seems the weather has fooled brewers near and far, as we're starting to see (brace yourself) Pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers... And believe it or not, I just put in an order for 15 cases of Beaujolais Nouveau. Regardless, it should be a nice weekend to be out and about for Second Saturday. Hope to see you here.
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
