14 Tomorrow!

A bit of Wine Merchant history: Tomorrow, 14 years ago, was our first day of business!

A lot has changed during these past fourteen years. Besides the obvious, fires, floods, pandemics and staffing, there remains an unchanged mission that we began with:

Our goal at The Wine Merchant is to create a friendly, non-threatening environment where fine wines, beers and gourmet food items can be enjoyed by the community. By demystifying the wine buying experience, we hope to educate those willing to listen and learn. And for those who would rather just drink and enjoy – well, you’re more than welcome to do just that”.enjoy – well, you’re more than welcome to do just that.

We’ve tried to remain true to that simple mission statement and plan on doing so for quite some time…

For both customer and employee safety we will be asking that all please provide facial covering while in the store.

Hours and operations will be Monday thru Saturday.

10:00 – 6pm.

WINE NEWS…

Rearranging, new layout, new colors, new bench coverings, a new look for another year…

Dan’s Wine Feature

Baby Blue from Blue Rock Vineyards is my feature for this holiday weekend. Why, because this Bordeaux styled Sonoma Red will compliment any item you have coming off the grill this weekend. Blue Rock Vineyards has almost always had a place in the store and we haven’t praised this bottle enough. Being there proprietary red blend, this wine is made in an approachable style that is simply delicious. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot and Malbec. It is 100% Estate fruit and it is a fantastic value. Priced at $32.99, makes it an approachable price point as well. Celebrate this weekend with a hot grill and a couple great bottles of wine, cuz that’s what weekends are all about.

Dan’s Wine Pick

Chateau La Freynelle is this weekend’s pick, Chateau La Freynelle is a 75 hectare estate (185 acres) in the village of Daignac, in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux. The story started in 1789 when Jean Barthe, a general under Napoleon Bonaparte, settled in the area and planted the first vines of what would then be called Château La Freynelle. With a backstory like that you’ll want more than one of these $14.99 bottles. Sure it compliments seafood, pasta, chicken, veal and pork, but in my opinion what it compliments best is an empty glass. This wine exhibits a brilliant straw robe which follows with a lovely, fruity nose of white peaches and citrus fruits. Needless to say, we go through a lot of this wine and sales have been very strong as well. This all- purpose white is surely to be enjoyed on a warm afternoon or kicking back on the porch or patio.

Final Thought

Take a moment this weekend to remember what this holiday represents, we’re all products of the Industrial Age and no one has to go back too many generations to recognize their efforts. Even in today’s world and maybe even more so today, we need to appreciate the country that was built for us and commit all our efforts to ensure that which we leave behind is as valuable as what was left for us. Have a happy a safe Labor Day weekend!

Please, please continue safe practices and please bring a mask when you come visit us at the store.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
