Wine News🍷

I think this week’s title says it all: Le 2022 Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé. We will have eight different wines to choose from this year. Fresh young wines meant to be quaffed, adorn a holiday table, or simply to fill an empty glass. Come in and pick up a few, and maybe order up some French treats. After all, it’s a celebration!

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

Torbreck 2020 Woodcutter’s Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. It’s no secret that I have an affinity for big Shiraz, and this bottle does the trick. The winemaker’s notes describe this bottle this way: “full of freshness and bright youthful fruits, the 2020 vintage of Woodcutter’s Shiraz possesses no small amount of exuberance and personality. Aromatic plum and black cherry with dark chocolate and intensity, yet refined. The balanced palate has a round central core of black and blue fruit that gives way to a complex mid-palate. While offering immense pleasure in its youth, the 2020 Woodcutter’s Shiraz will certainly develop into an impressive wine with a few more years in the cellar.” A fantastic introduction to the Torbreck range and only $25.99 at that. I kind of lost track of this wonderful wine, and when I was reacquainted with this bottle, I was truly excited to see it. Big, rich, dense, concentrated fruit drives this wine. Would I drink it by itself? You bet. Would I put it on the Thanksgiving table? Absolutely! With an ABV of 15%, it’s the perfect answer to a cold, wet day, and since I have the sample bottle right next to me and it just so happens to be a cold wet day… well, I think you can figure it out.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Mothers Milk Shiraz is my pick for this week. Why??? Because the 2020 vintage was 26th in the top 100 wines chosen by Wine Spectator this year. Now this is not a new wine for us; we always knew that this was a great wine for the price ($19.99), but if you didn’t believe us, Wine Spectator goes on like this: “there’s a lot to admire in this complex, juicy red, which offers polished tannins and a core of fresh cherry and açaí berry flavors highlighted by notes of dried rose petal, sandalwood, salted dark chocolate and fresh tobacco. A hint of white pepper and a firming, malty Assam black tea hint lingers on the finish.” Anytime I can find a bottle of Shiraz with this type of write up I don’t have to think long. I didn’t bring in much because I wasn’t the only one to recognize its placement. If you’re looking for an excuse to purchase a great bottle of Shiraz on the cheap, get in here quick.

Food News 🦃

I know I’m usually here complaining about the price of beef; however, this week is an exception. I’m a bargain hunter, and I found a few this week. For one, lobster tails have fallen in price — what was once $12.99 is now $9.99 per tail. Salmon has remained steady, and Halibut and Cod seems to be holding as well. The two new items that I really got excited about are Prime Beef Short Loins and whole Veal Racks. These came in at a great deal, and they're here to share with you!

Food Feature 🐟

Prime Porterhouse Steaks are my feature for this week. 75lbs of this luscious piece of Steer came in today, and when I can buy it and sell it for $16.99/lb, it’s an unbelievable deal. My goal is to begin breaking down one tomorrow, so if you’re in the mood for such a cut, get on down here. I break these down by 3 to 4 finger’s thickness. These steaks are the classic Italian Bistecca alla Fiorentina, so one half is strip steak the other the tenderloin. It’s quite natural for one steak to feed two or more people. These cuts are selling now for $16.99/lb — that’s right, $16.99!!! While I’ve complained about beef prices the past few weeks, I’m not complaining about these. They certainly won’t last long, so give me a call and reserve a couple today.
