Store News 🏬

The next few weeks will be trying for all of us… our goal is as always to have the wine, beer, or food product that you need for the holidays. Be it that special bottle or the main item on your dinner table, we’re here to help.

Wine News🍷

December marks the month that we pretty much stop tasting wines from distributors. Their sample budgets have run out, and in many cases, our time available to taste has run out as well. Will we still request some new wines? You bet, but the most important part of this season is keeping the racks full and making certain special orders are taken care of. Yes, there will still be some wine news to share, but not as much as before.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

This week's feature comes from Napa Valley: Sam Jaspar 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. We’ve never had the opportunity to share this wine with you until right now. Sam Jasper Cabernet is a product of "the collaborative efforts of the Indelicato family of Black Stallion Winery and renowned consultant Thomas Rivers Brown. Together they present an alluring inky purple hue that sets the stage for an immersive sensory experience. The wine opens with a captivating bouquet, exuding the essence of ripe, brambly berries and plums, interlaced with subtle hints of walnut husk and cedar, evoking an air of refinement and depth." Notes continue with describing that on the palate, "this full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon reveals an explosion of intense flavors, dominated by the luscious essence of red currant and cherry. A broad, velvety wave of flavors cascades, seamlessly integrating vibrant fruit notes with intricate undertones of espresso, rich chocolate, and the subtle complexity of graphite. The wine culminates in a protracted, gratifying finish, leaving a lasting impression of its exquisite balance and finesse." This 95+ point Cabernet isn’t a daily drinker at $149.99; it is, however, a wonderful bottle to gift to the wine lover in your life. This wine is a one and done; we won’t have the opportunity to purchase any more of it until next year. We were given only 3 by our distributor and were quite lucky to get them, so if you’re looking for that extra-special gift, stop on in and we’ll make your day.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

My pick this week is from the Burgundy region of France, more specifically Chablis. Joseph Drouhin’s 2021 Vaudon Chablis is the wine that’s on the shelf for this week. Tasting notes have this to say about one of my favorite Chardonnays: "Joseph Drouhin 2021 Vaudon Chablis is an elegant and refined white wine that captures the essence of the Chablis region in France. With a pale gold color and greenish hues, this wine exudes freshness and vitality. The nose is greeted with intense citrus aromas, specifically of lemon and grapefruit, that are balanced with hints of fern and coriander. On the palate, it is dry and fruity, with a mineral undertone that adds complexity and depth to the wine. The taste is crisp and refreshing, making it an ideal accompaniment to a variety of dishes." That’s why I like this wine -- for me, it’s the perfect expression of the varietal. This is not the Chardonnay that you're used to... no oak or butter on this bottle. It's crisp, acidic, and with moderate minerality that makes it a mealtime favorite. If you think you don’t like Chardonnay, this is the bottle that will sway you to the other side. Priced at $36.99, I consider it affordable because many of the white Burgundy wines have simply gone through the roof. Give it a try, and I think you’ll agree Chablis is where it's at.

Food News 🐮

Beef prices certainly aren’t going down, and every day I wait, they seem to be go up even higher. We’re taking orders now for Christmas Prime Rib or Beef Tenderloin, or any other menu item that you request. As always, we’re looking for the best prices that we can lock in for these cuts. If it’s Prime Rib, we just need to know a couple things… (1) bone in or boneless, and (2) how many people you’ll be serving. This year, there will be rolling prices, so order early and I’ll lock in the price and keep your beef here until Saturday, December 23. Or if you're a risk taker, roll the dice and see what happens with the price throughout the month, and we’ll still have it ready and waiting for you. Our current price for Prime Bone-In Ribeye is $21.99/lb, and Choice is $19.99/lb. I have about 45 pounds of Prime locked up, so if you’re like me and recognize that (1) Christmas will be here before we know it, and (2) it would be a Christmas miracle if Prime Beef prices fell during the holidays, it’s time to pull the trigger on that Holiday roast. Give us a call!

Oyster News 🦪

This week’s special will be WiAnno Oysters from West Bay and Barnstable Harbor, Massachusetts. WiAnno oysters are sustainably harvested by hand from the clean, cold waters of Cape Cod and the Nantucket Sound. They grow in a manner that allows the meat to fully expand within the shell, yielding a high meat-to-shell ratio. WiAnno Oysters are plump and firm with deep cups and have a moderately briny flavor and a slight sweetness. The shells are firm and easy to open. That’s at least what the tech sheet says... all I know is that they’re fresh, tasty, and from the cold waters of Massachusetts Bay. Once again, we’re bringing in another new one to try on for size, so stop in and let us know if they are a new favorite.
