Wine News

I know the days till above are a little much, but I’m just putting it out there that if you’re doing early shopping for the holidays like many are, put wine on that list as well. Special wines for the holidays, let us know early and we’ll try to lock some up. The holiday season will further compound the shipping delays that we’re all experiencing and unfortunately wine is not a top priority when containers need shipped or warehouses need to be restocked. Just a heads up on what we feel the industry may go through in the next three months.

Dan’s Feature

Two Hands 2019 Sexy Beast is a succulent and luscious McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon. Whereas I’m always a big fan of Shiraz from this region, their Cabernet is also something to get excited about! Wine makers notes describe this as follows: “I was always taught that Cabernet Sauvignon was a classical, structured and well-mannered wine, but in our wonderful McLaren Vale Mediterranean climate we make it rich, brooding and powerful, underpinned by boundless energy. We call it our Sexy Beast, inspired by the 2000 cult classic movie starring Sir Ben Kingsley”. On the palate the wine begins with a thick sway of primary and robust fruits. The tannins are well integrated and offer a nice dry twist to the late palate. I’d have this firmly in the slurp-able category, it really does just slide down so easily. You can take a lot of pleasure from this wine, one mouthful after another. At $29.99 it’s well worth the price, step outside the traditional Napa Cab route and get this Aussie on!

Dan’s Pick

My pick for this week is the 2020 Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc from Martinborough, New Zealand. Robert Parker described the wine this way: “the latest vintage of Craggy Range's popular 2020 Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc offers grassy, lime-scented aromas backed by plenty of grapefruit, hints of nectarine and even the suggestion of fig or guava. It's medium-bodied and subtly textural on the palate, finishing long, crisp and silky—probably the best vintage of this wine I can remember”. We first brought this Sauvignon Blanc in because we were seeing shortages from this region, now we just try to keep it in stock. If you’re a Sauvignon Blanc fan (and I know a good many of you are) this 91+ point crisp, clean and delicious wine for $21.99 is well worth the expense. Get it while it’s hot…

Apparently October is Seafood month! Obviously with that in mind we have plenty of seafood to share with you! Be it our Ahi Tuna, Langostines, Shrimp, Scallops or our new Lobster Ravioli and Risotto di Mare we’ve got a few great items to celebrate with. On the fresh side, our ever present Scottish Salmon, or this week’s Arctic Char and Monkfish will certainly add to the celebration.

Final Thought

Up until a few weeks ago I was leaving for Italy today… That didn’t quite happen. In Italy I drink and eat, sometimes to excess… learn new recipes, cook and prepare new items. New wines, new foods, yeah that’s why I go, to experience that which has become my life. My last two trips canceled means that I’m searching for a new destination, somewhere to hide out and maybe pick up a few new ideas…See you in a couple weeks…

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
