Dan’s Feature
Tuck Beckstoffer’s 2016 Sum Red Blend is my feature for this week. 75 Wine Company produces some wonderful wines but this week’s feature is both a value and a great wine. For $24.99 this Oakville blend is a great buy and is priced more than fair. Just reading the following wine makers notes let’s you in on how this wine is made and what to expect.
“The SUM is a unique and stylistic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and select varietals that make up a bold proprietary cuvee, where the finished wine is bigger than the sum of its parts. This blend is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with Petite Sirah and Merlot. Crushed cherry, rhubarb, and cedar fill the glass. On the palate, it’s soft and seamless, with flavors of strawberry jam, raspberry, and accents of cinnamon and clove.” We always enjoy a great red blend and for the money spent you won’t be disappointed.
Dan’s Pick
This week’s pick is Lamadrid’s 2016 Single Vineyard Reserva Bonarda. Don’t know if I have ever chosen this varietal as a feature or a pick before but years ago I had this wine and was smitten with it. We have had the Lamadrid’s wines in the store and it has been quite a while since we’ve seen this particular one, so when it was presented to me yesterday it was a simple decision bring it back in. If you’re interested in trying the #2 most planted and harvested red grape from Argentina then this $19.99 is just what you need. Tasting notes go like this “nose of underbrush, mineral, plum, mulberry, and violets. Concentrated on the palate with good depth, balance, and length, this flavorful effort deftly combines elegance and power, quite an achievement at this price point.” It’s always fun to try something new and this will be a great one to try.
Friday/Saturday Special
It’s the big Pizza again; this week the choice is Prosciutto with artichokes and marinara or pesto with vegetables. $12 for the Big Pizza this Friday and Saturday!
Final Thought
While February may be the shortest month of the year it’s a busy month down here at the Wine Merchant. Valentines Day, an evening planning trips to Italy or Spain with Gianni and then of course Fat Tuesday. We’re always planning something down here and we’ve always got you in mind!
Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
