7 Days and Counting

It’s all about Beaujolais Nouveau next Thursday…

We’ll be serving all day!

Next Thursday Nov. 21 will be that once a year experience of trying all the 2019 Beaujolais we have in stock and of course Beef Bourguignon!

Calendar of Events

November 14th – Thirsty Thursday! Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup!

November 21st – Beaujolais Nouveau!

Do I really need to say more…We’ll taste as many Nouveau’s as I can bring in, I’ll prepare as much Bourguignon as my kitchen can handle, bring in way too much Brie and Baguette and we’ll just have a party! Nobody really does this anymore, but…we do, and we do it right!

December 3rd – Champagne Tasting ***SOLD OUT

We’re bringing in all grower produced Champagnes this year, six of the best we found. We’ll have a special guest from the distributor (Jason) here to help explain each and every one of them. Of course we’ll choose some great heavy appetizers to accompany these beautiful new Champagnes. It’s bubbles all night long!

December 25th – Closed Christmas Day

January 1st – Closed New Years Day

Beer Tasting

It’s an all Cincinnati beer tasting this Saturday, we’ll kick things off with Madtree Psycopathy and then into Rhinegeist’s Kappa Flounder. Number three and four will be Madtree’s Knotty Brown and then to finish the tasting off we’ll sip a little Rhinegeist Calfe. Something good for everyone, hope to see you Saturday!

Feature Item

Dunham 2015 XXI Cabernet from Columbia Valley is my feature this week and for $49.99 it’s hard to beat. You know how much I enjoy Columbia Valley Reds and this bottle is no exception. Tasting notes describe this Cabernet as "Bright, dark ruby-red. “The nose combines a very ripe raspberry aroma, notes of licorice and mocha, and a faint herbal element. Then fleshy and glossy on the palate, with sweet blackberry and cassis flavors framed and enlivened by nicely integrated acidity. This rather suave wine finishes with smooth tannins, a hint of chocolatey oak and very good length." For the holidays or Saturday night, this is a Cabernet that’s sure to get you excited.

Dan’s Pick

Chateau Font Barriele 2017 Vin Rouge from Costieres De Nimes, France this $10.99 Syrah Grenache Blend was significantly marked down and I just had to bring it in. This is the perfect anytime any evening red. Easy to accompany any fare this rich French red will be a go to bottle. You’ll never feel guilty opening this wine at its price point and who knows you may want to open two. Easy drinking and rewarding all for $10.99, how can you go wrong?

Friday/Saturday Special

Well of course it’s meatballs, but this week they’ll be served with veal demi-glace, mushrooms and romano cheese. Probably our most decadent form and last year proved to be one of the season’s favorites…

Final Thought

Findlay Wine Merchant has been a second home, well first home most weeks, for over 3 years. Dan has built an incredible base of customers here, many of you I’ve been able to connect with and build relationships. I cherish these relationships and always will. It certainly isn’t easy saying goodbye, which is seemingly evident by the tearful emotions the past couple weeks. All of you have made coming to work a true joy. For that, I thank you all.

I want to give a special thank you to Dan for teaching me everything about the business (outside of tasting…or drinking...lots of wine). Always learning something new whether it was about the business, wine, or life in general. Dan always has our best interest in mind and does whatever it takes to take care of all of us here. Dan, thank you for everything. It is appreciated more than you know, everything you’ve done and continue to do. It really has become family down here and I will certainly miss the camaraderie. I will miss you all, but surely I will be back to visit often!

-Jess

Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
