Store News 🏬

I was reminded yesterday how fast the holidays are approaching —when looking at our private events calendar, we’re starting to see quite a few scheduled. If you would like a private space to celebrate with friends and family or for a business celebration, please reach out to us as soon as possible. We enjoy hosting your events and can accommodate most of your requests. Just because our store events are full doesn’t mean we can’t host one for you.

Wine News🍷

Apparently I have a very hard time saying no… quite a few new wines again this week. There will come a time when there will be little or no new wines for the week, but not this week. Over the past few days, we’ve tasted more wine than we usually taste in a month, and when you start at 10:30 in the morning, the rest of the day can be kind of rough. We’re changing up a few of our sections: new Red Blends, a few new Cabernets and Pinots, and new options in Chile, Italy and France.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

It’s Halloween-themed wines for this week! Our feature thus is Tenet Wines’ “The Pundit,” from Columbia Valley. It’s a spookily good wine for this season. This collaborative effort between Chateau St. Michelle and Philippe Cambie from the Rhone Valley of France is a classic Washington Syrah. A French contributing winemaker from the home of Syrah makes this a real delight. This is one of those wines that more or less fell off our radar, and when it crossed our path again, we brought it right back in. The label may or may not glow in the dark, but who cares, it’s what’s inside that counts. Here’s what the winemaker has to say: “The wine is deep ruby in color with garnet highlights. Aromas of blackberry and currants mingle with dark earthy undertones along with bramble and tobacco. A decadent mouthfeel with flavors of cherry, blueberry, and dark chocolate is complimented by a long, juicy, complex finish.” Did I say that the label may or may not glow in the dark?? A frighteningly delicious take on one of my favorite varietals.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Bogle 2019 “The Phantom” is our scary great pick for this week. This is an annual release/Fall wine for us. This $19.99 Red Blend is always a great wine for this time of year and needs to find a Halloween Party to attend. Phantom is blend of 56% Petite Sirah and 44% Zinfandel. “This vintage, Petite Sirah leads this haunting red blend with intense notes of dark blackberry and rich boysenberry. Zinfandel adds fiery pepper notes and brings a balanced structure to the final wine. In the finish, tantalizing layers of baking spices swirl amongst velvety tannins that have softened as they’ve aged 22 months in American Oak. A sip of Phantom unfurls a seductive mystery yet to be solved.” Pick up a few of these and see why this wine is always a fall favorite.

Food Feature 📣

Dry Aged Prime hand cut Ribeyes are this weeks feature. We always have 12 oz pre-cut dry aged Ribeyes over here, but rarely can we get in the whole primal to cut for ourselves. So seeing as we have one all trimmed out, we can sell you any size you want for $30.99/lb. If you want a 12oz cut, we can do it at $23.25 per steak, so let us know how big and how many, and we’ll get to cutting. This Prime Beef comes from Creekstone Ranch in Aberdeen, South Dakota. They are then taken over by Fairway Meats of Detroit, Michigan, and that’s where the Dry Aging begins. They are then meticulously cared for in a Himalayan salt block lined room for anywhere between 28 and 45 days. Many people ask, how does a dry aged Prime beef cut compare with a normal Prime beef cut? “A cut of dry aged steak can look reasonably similar to a standard cut, yet overall, aged meat is simply richer, beefier, and considerably more tender than standard steaks. There's a notable difference in every bite, with a 'melt-in-your-mouth' moment.” That’s exactly what we’re trying to create down here, and I’m quite certain that’s what this beef will provide for you and yours.

Final Thoughts 💬

New wines and beers are in the racks, the champagne cooler is stocked, whole Ribeye of Fresh Dry Aged Beef and Faroe Island Salmon are in the cooler, and our Italian Fresh/Frozen Pastas are in the freezer. Accompany that with very full and heavy racks and you’d think we’re planning on a holiday or two! I’m not one to push a season, but I am one to prepare for them. I’d like to think that we have our bases covered and hope that while you may be dreading them, it’s always best to prepare for them, and always remember we’re here to assist in any manner we can.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
