Store News

I’m keeping the events kind of light because I’m not certain if I’ll have employees down here to work them… As you will soon see we’re saying farewell to another one. There will be new staff coming in however there may be a lag and I just might find myself behind the wheel going solo for awhile. Obviously, I’m asking for you to be understanding while we work through a little rough patch. Our goal is to make it through this the same way we’ve gotten through other difficult periods. Bare with us, I may be squinting but there looks to be a hint of light at the end of this tunnel.

Wine News🍷

I kind of decided that we needed some great value wines down here. While prices on everything else is going up, I wanted to save you a little money on some new wines. New French, Argentinian and South African wines were presented to me at the end of last week and I enjoyed all of them. Besides being great values, they also hit all of my criteria for great summer wines be they White, Rose’ or Reds all of these are designed for your porch or patio. The reds are capable of accepting a light chill and will be good with anything you’ve got coming off the grill. Stop in and pick up a few of these. Sure, it may cost a bit more to drive down here but you’re making it up on some great value wines.

Dan’s Feature

My feature for the week is Pillars of Hercules 2020 Estate Red Blend from Dunnigan Hills, Ca. This $17.99 red blend is comprised of 54% Petite Sirah, 27% Petit Verdot, 19% Teroldego. Not really sure what Teroldego is but it could be that presence that kept bringing me back for another glass. “This unique blend of three Estate Grown reds shows off its robust pedigree in the deep, dark purple color. The aromatics are a beautiful mix of violets, dense black fruit, and chocolate. Juicy flavors of blueberry, boysenberry and blackberry jam are a nice counterpoint to the toasty oak and racy black pepper notes. The texture is full and viscous and hangs around for a long finish. This bold red blend has enough balance and complexity to enjoy on its own as an aperitif”. All that and accompanied alongside of $17.99, this is one to try on for size just to see if it fits you.

Dan’s Pick

The pick for this week is Le Campuget 2021 Grenache Blanc/Viognier from the Costieres de Nimes area of France's southern Rhone. I’m considering this wine as at least one item that has not been hit with inflation. At the low, low price of $8.99, Le Campuget Grenache Viognier will certainly please. This wine is a fresh, subtle blend of Grenache Blanc and Viognier. It shows beautiful notes of citrus, floral aromas, and is loaded with elegant, fresh flavors - a great summer accompaniment to well… anything! We all love a bargain and this wine drinks well above it’s price point. I have a new host of these wines that makes the parties and celebrations just that much more price friendly. No price increase on this pump, pull on in and we’ll fill you up!

Food News😋

Only one delivery this week, Scottish Loch Duart Salmon and Dry Aged Steaks were about all I needed. We’ll fall back into some sense of normal next week. I’ll always have plenty of Demkota Beef (Strip Loins) and the best Salmon on the market. I had the opportunity to try the Demkota strip steaks this past weekend and I was very, very pleased... enough to double my order for this week! And, while they go out of here hand cut and trimmed for $18.99/lb these are great steaks for the money.

Food Feature 🥩

Let’s go with the Berkshire Double Cut Chops... Berkshire chops are the equivalent of a bone in rib steak. They have a nice fat to muscle ratio which results in uniform marbling throughout each cut. For almost four centuries, the most flavorful pork has come from the Berkshire breed of hogs. Known as the “black pig” to many, the superior taste of Berkshire makes it the ideal choice for everything from tasty barbecued chops to moist delicious hams. Berkshire pork is famous for the perfect combination of juiciness, flavor and tenderness. One taste and you’ll see why this breed of pork has retained its popularity through the test of time. Try our Berkshire pork today and discover all the natural flavor you have been missing! I usually brine these chops for a few hours in a simple solution of water to equal parts of sugar and salt. Following the brine, a quick rinse, dust with seasoning and place on a hot grill. Grill on all three sides, meat and meat and then the fat cap. Once you have a good sear, place it on the warm side of the grill and cook to an internal temperature of 135 degrees. Yep that’s right 135 and it will continue to rise to a perfect 145+ after resting. You’re now in for a very, very tasty treat.
