Apparently it’s summer, we’ve got plenty of suggestions on how to stay hydrated…

For both customer and employee safety we will be asking that all please provide facial covering while in the store.

Hours and operations will be Monday thru Saturday.

10:00 – 6pm.

WINE NEWS…

We haven’t been receiving wine reps for the past 12 weeks so it’s been a challenge to try new wines that we want to share with you, but recently sales reps have been dropping off wines for us to sample. On Tuesday, Chelsea, TJ and of course myself tasted a total of 17 wines and found a few that we’ll be bringing in. We’re always excited to bring in new products to share with you, so we’ll keep drinking and trying to find something that we know you’ll enjoy.

Dan’s Wine Feature

This week’s feature is from Flowers Winery and Vineyards of the Sonoma Coast. Flowers produces fantastic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but they’re quite pricey so when we were presented with their Rosé at a significant reduction in price we decided to take advantage. This big beautiful Rosé of Pinot Noir was $36.99 and is NOW $24.99, such a deal that we couldn’t say no. Tasting notes describe this wine quite accurately as, “elegant and distinct with aromas of peach, strawberry, and subtle hints of rose petal. Bursts of fresh citrus colorfully drive the palate and are balanced with flavors of nectarine and stone fruit”. If you’re a Pinot Noir fan or a Rosé fan this wine is for you, paired with a nice piece of Salmon will make you understand just how good both can taste.

Dan’s Wine Pick

My pick for this week is a new crisp Italian white, Pipoli Basilicata Grec-Fiano. This $15.99 bottle is a wine that enjoys the warm weather that’s before us, flowers and lemon are the pervasive notes to this summer white. While still a dry, crisp white this wine will pair nicely with a snack on the patio, a fresh garden salad or a nice piece of fish. Greco is one of the many thought to be lost ancient Italian varietals. Whereas we have carried a version in past years it was presented to us and definitely passed our test with three thumbs up, we won’t steer you wrong…

FOOD NEWS…

Food prices at our end seem to be leveling off and we’re beginning to see a more permanent supply of all our new favorites. Sure, we’ll keep looking for some amazing deals but we’re just happy to see a more readily available supply.

Food Feature of the Week

It’s the Bone in Pork Chop for this week, Each chop is cut to approximately one pound and at $5.99 they’re a steal! My suggestion is simple, mix 2 tablespoons of salt and sugar, fill a medium pot with water and heat until all has dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool and then pour this mixture over the chops, refrigerate and allow them to brine for 3 or 4 hours. Remove the chops, discard the liquid, pat dry the chops, season to your liking and then place them on a medium hot grill. Cook to 5 degrees under your chosen temperature 130/135 degrees and then remove them from the grill and allow them to rest for a few moments, the temperature will likely rise another 5 degrees, making these some of the tastiest pork you’ve ever eaten!

Final Thought

The bar is set up, tables are socially distanced, the patio can be reset, we just want to make sure our reopening is not a temporary adjustment… are we ready to open, well not so fast… Our next task is to see if we’re capable of staffing. The number of hours we would like to be open and the services we want to provide, require simply, more employees. We want to see you, serve you and get back to what’s to be a new normal, trust us when we say we miss all of you and we will work tirelessly to open our doors.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
