Store News 🏬

So Friday night is ART WALK, and coincidentally, we’re laying out our new Wine Menu at the Bar. It’s time to change things up a bit, and this Friday the shaking has begun. So in celebration of both ART WALK and our new Wine List, we’re going to stay open till 8pm and serve Pizzas all day long. Is this going to be a permanent change? Not right now, but we’re always thinking about how to shake things up down here.

Wine News🍷

Didn’t bring in a lot of new this week. I had some obligations that we had to bring in that had been allocated to us. On top of those, we also had to load in all the new wines for the New Wine List, and with the wine feature below, this week wasn’t exactly on budget 🙄.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

Kind of a Halloween surprise on Monday… Received a call that I would be getting in six each of Sea Smoke Ten and Southing Pinot Noir, and also their Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay. Somebody passed on their allocation and it is being sold to us. This was definitely a TREAT on Monday as these wines are certainly a treasure. When I received our allocation, they were all gone in three days, so in getting in another (and final) allocation, we might be able to make a few more people happy. These Bio-Dynamic and Organic wines are the Grand Cru of California, and while priced at $104.99, they’re worth every penny. These wines will never disappoint and will make a pretty big statement when placed on the table. The wine maker describes these wines as follows: “Southing Pinot Noir is a brooding and intense wine. The aromas begin with notes of elderberry, freesia and fig, then a myriad of savory spices, and a hint of lavender. Firm, mature tannins — evidence of Southing’s ageability —are followed by a long, velvety finish. Ten Pinot Noir is as well described as brooding and intense. Its aromas begin with notes of black tea, blackberry and orange rind, then a myriad of savory spices, and a hint of jasmine. Firm, mature tannins — evidence of Ten’s ageability — are followed by a long, velvety finish.” I still don’t believe that description does enough to amplify how great these wines are.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Well yeah, their Chardonnay has got to be my pick. This wine is like no other Chardonnay I have ever tasted. And after pouring this wine at this year’s Uncorked Unplugged, all of those who tasted were in agreement. This Chardonnay is a truly an elegant wine with aromas of Meyer lemon zest, fresh cut melon and honeycomb. The nose is complemented by mandarin and a slight nuttiness in the focused mid-palate, and the refreshing cool climate acidity of our estate vineyard. These wines tip the scales at exceptional, so if you’re looking for that unbelievable Pinot and Chard for Thanksgiving, look no further. If you have someone in mind that is a fan of these varietals, buy that Christmas present today. These will not last long at all and certainly won’t be available for another year.

Food News 🦃

Turkeys are ordered and will be arriving on Tuesday November 22nd. Halibut is in house, and because of a mistake I made, so are 250 Oysters. It’s a seafood kind of week down here: Salmon, Halibut, and 3 different kinds of oysters make this a wonderful week for a Seafood dinner, and sure, we’ll pick out a wine or two to go with it.

Food Feature 🐟

I chose a feature food three weeks ago and then the temperature rose to 70 degrees. I’ve tried to use it every week since, but the temperature hasn’t changed… seriously the intro is like “I’m looking out the window, it’s 42 degrees and it’s raining, and all I want for dinner is…” Well it hasn’t been 42 degrees during the day at least for quite a while, and it’s hardly rained! So, my feature for this week is Halibut! The freshest you can find, just in today $23.99/lb and worth every penny. As you can see from the picture, I’m quite proud of this fish, and finally my Ronco Pocket Fisherman came in handy. This North Atlantic Halibut is a perfect mild and flaky white fish that when properly prepared will hold its shape and texture through the cooking process. These fillets are cut from large fish and boast a delicate flavor and firm texture that make them perfectly suited to baking, broiling, steaming, or grilling. Our Halibut is caught by the crew of the "Never Surrender" - a fishing vessel that currently works the U.S. and Canadian waters off the coasts of Nova Scotia and Maine. OK, OK, so that’s not me in the picture, but that’s the fish! We always enjoy these large cuts of fish and especially when sharing them with you.

Final Thoughts 💬

Normally I simply mention our services, and all that we have to offer to you, but this week, it’s a little different… Tuesday is Election Day, and besides being a duty and responsibility, it’s simply the right thing to do. Our country’s going through some interesting times, and a Democracy is not a spectator sport. Vote for whatever or whoever you choose, the bottom line is exercise that privilege, and after that, settle in with a great bottle of wine that you’ve chosen down here. Either way, you’ll be celebrating or commiserating, so the second bottom line… be prepared.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
