News 🗞
Several things are back in stock this week that I'd be remiss if I didn't point out... Sea Pearl Sauvignon Blanc and the Reputation Cabernet Sauvignons chief among them, but also some Portuguese and Spanish budget reds, some German Rieslings, and a few more. This summer's been tough on stock stability, but rest assured that we are doing our best to keep your favorites available, as well as bring in some new ones. Several of those newer items (particularly this week's pick) would be delicious with our Food Special this weekend: Seafood Ceviche! The Latin American specialty made fresh here in Findlay, OH. Shrimp and Hamachi (AKA Kingfish) cured in fresh citrus juices along with Bell Peppers, Jalapeño, Carrot, Cucumber, and more, served with Tortilla Chips. It's fresh, it's zesty, and it's just plain good. Serving Friday and Saturday while supplies last. We also added a few more events coming up, so make sure to take a look at those, including... Shark Week next week! We will be serving Ahi Tuna Crudo & Sashimi all week long, Monday-Friday, while supplies last.
Wine Feature ⭐️
A new (returning, really) Barolo for the racks, Fratelli Revello 2021 Barolo from the Langhe in Northwest Italy. This is coming in at $45.99, which is a great price for a Barolo these days. Fratelli Ravello is, you may be able to tell from the name if you're familiar with Italian, owned by two brothers who inherited the business from their parents and now run it with their children. As with many European producers, especially those whose families have been in the business for generations, the wines are sustainable, organic, low-intervention, and this one is even unfiltered. The vines used for this Nebbiolo are 25-65 years old, so they're concentrated and complex. It's aged in 20% and 80% neutral French oak, so the grapes really come through in the finished product. You never want too much oak on with Nebbiolo grapes because they're so delicate. "Licorice, red fruit and lavender, with an enveloping floral note. Medium- to full-bodied, this is juicy and succulent, with crisp acidity and angular, fine-grained tannins that frame the wine nicely." And then this: "This mid-weight, juicy Barolo is everything a wine in its peer group should be: simple, delicious and impeccably crafted." Not a bad review.

Wine Pick 🥂
The Wall Street Journal is calling this "the summer of Albariño," so the pick this week is Bodegas Familia Chavarri 2025 Lagar de Indra Albariño. From the Rías Baixas coast in Northwest Spain, just north of Vinho Verde country in Portugal where the mild climate, together with the rainfall of the area, give the Albariño grape variety "unmatched notes of flavor and aroma." The mineral-rich soil, the salty sea air, and the cooler temperatures come together to create a bright, crisp wine that is perfect for the summer. I like this quote from their website... "by understanding the environment, you know exactly what the wine is asking for when you make it." The winemaker doesn't decide; the earth decide, the grapes decide, and you get a true expression of time and place. "Bright notes of sliced apples and nectarines, complemented by a hint of sea salt, lead into a medium-bodied palate with notes of salted lime. This is a classic Albariño in a fresh, uncomplicated style." Fresh, balanced, persistent, and $17.99. Only six bottles in stock for the time being, so let us know if you like it.

Oysters
This week we have Cherry Bomb Oysters, which might be a first for us. These are large Cape Cod oysters, probably 3.5 inches in size at least, so great for baking. "A robust, meaty oyster with a rich, creamy texture. They have a sweet, butter flavor with a clean, crisp finish."

Final Thoughts 💬
We've been on a rollercoaster with the weather this month, as is par for the course in Ohio, but these past couple of days have been an extremely pleasant break in the clouds (or smoke, or heat, or humidity). These are the kind of days we live for. Enjoy it while you can... preferably with a drink in hand on our patio.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
