Store News 🏬
We learned that we lost two wine distributors over the past week. This business is a rough one, and the difficulties incurred over the past few years weren’t much of a help either. When a distributor goes down, so goes their portfolio. Product is lost, and you’re never sure if it will be picked up by another distributor. Wine is like everything else — the larger distributors just keep getting larger, and the small ones hold on as long as they can. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we don’t lose your favorites.
Wine News🍷
Contrary to what was written above, supply on many of our favorites appear to be strong with a few new wines coming our way. We’re excited about the upcoming holidays and are trying to focus on building an inventory that will fulfill many of your shopping needs. That said, we suggest stopping in to see us if there’s something special you’d like us to procure for you before the holidays begin.
Dan’s Feature ⭐️
Fableist wines have become one our favorites down here, and this week, we brought in a pair of new ones for the store. We’re recognizing their #373 2021 Cabernet “The Ant and the Cicada.” This young, new Cabernet of course comes to to us from Paso Robles, and priced at $19.99, it’s a very easy choice for this week’s dinner table. Comprised of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 2% Malbec, this vibrant wine shows notes of black currant, cedar, and vanilla on the palate, followed by blackberries and cherries on the finish. When searching this wine out nationally, the prices seem to range from $21.99 to $27.99, so while we have it at $19.99, it’s not only a bargain but also a great wine as well. These people know how to make wine, and we’re very happy to add this to our Cabernet rack.
Dan’s Pick 🥂
Kloster Neustift/Abbazia Di Novacella 2020 Pinot Grigio is my feature for this week. This confusing bottle of Pinot Grigio is the one that I have told everybody is the finest expression of this varietal that I have ever had. Why the confusing name? While produced in Alto Adige, an Italian region that borders both Austria and Switzerland, all three countries enjoy this wine; thus Kloster Neustift is simply the German name for Abbazia Di Novacella (Novacella Abbey). Having two names makes remembering this one difficult… that’s why many just say I want two bottles of your favorite Pinot Grigio. Abbazia di Novacella is described as a wine “deserving a string of exclamation points, the estate ranks among the world's oldest active wineries. Grapes have been cultivated here since the 1100s. The vineyards are located on the steep slopes of the Dolomites, offering hot summer days, but cool nights that render mouth watering acidity in the wines. This is a serious Pinot Grigio with depth, power, and minerality.” This is a Pinot Grigio that Northern Italy drinks, and we love having this bottle in at $24.99. While priced a little higher, it’s still a great deal — after all, it is the best Pinot Grigio in Italy!
Food News 📰
We were able to pick up another 14 of the Bone-In 12-ounce Beef Tenderloin cuts for this week. Early reports make it seem like many of you will be back for more! Today, we also have in Fresh Swordfish. I’ve recently become a swordfish fan since I finally learned how to cook it properly. Our Faroe Island Salmon is fantastic and will be easy to keep in stock and apparently at the price we’ve become accustomed to. The biggest news from last week is the success our Bacchini Fiocchi pasta. We sold out our first batch and have another one in today. We’re also bringing in Gnocchi from Bacchini — their fresh frozen pastas direct from Italy can’t be beat. We love finding new foods to pair with our wines and to share with all of you. We’re going to continue that quest to keep finding new and remarkable items for your table.

Apparently we’ve got a great weekend coming up, one more chance to grill it up as though it’s summertime. Our Demkota Ribeyes are here and beautiful, and our Creekstone Prime Dry Aged Strips and Ribeyes are certainly worthy for this last fling with summer. We’re pretty certain we can come up with an entire menu that will keep everyone out of the kitchen and enjoying these couple of days we’re looking forward to.

Final Thoughts 💬
As our new wine and beer lists show, we’ve been busy this week. We’ve been excited to bring in everything new that we can, and you’ll be seeing new items coming in next week as well. We’re freshening up our racks — new season, new wines. We’re doing the same with our pantry items, as well. If it’s cold outside, our palates and our diets look forward to a change. I’ve always said that all change is good… let me know if you agree with that. Enjoy this last weekend of sun and warmth, while at the same time, let’s all look forward to Fall ’22!
Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
