NewsĀ šŸ—ž

Well it's that time of year... our champagnes are mostly in, holiday allocations of some fine wines are starting to arrive, and our first keg of Christmas beer is in the cooler. Time flies when everything comes in 2-3 months early. Our Champagne Tasting is filling up or possibly is full, the Alternative Dinner is open and available (and will be unique and extra good this year... I'll leave it at that), so give us a call if you'd like on the list or perhaps waitlist for either of those. This weekend, however, will be a Second Saturday Special of Beef Tenderloin Sandwiches. The world's most ideal sandwich? It's certainly in the running. This will be a Crusty Roll loaded high with juicy, seasoned, sliced Beef Tenderloin, a housemade Horseradish Cream Sauce, and Fresh Arugula, served with a side of Kettle Cooked Potato Chips. A simple but delicious Saturday lunch, dinner, or even a snack. Maybe you'll have to order two... no judgment here. Hope you can come try it out. We will have Ohio State on the TV and cold beers in the fridge to go with it, so no need to worry about that. We've got it all covered for you.

Wine FeatureĀ āļø

Got my hands on rather a special bottle this week: RAEN 2023 Royal St. Robert CuvƩe Pinot Noir. Now this bottle is a bit of an investment at $87.99, but it is James Suckling's #1 domestic wine of 2025 with a whopping 99 points. You don't see that too often. Here is his review: "An amazingly complex, dynamic wine that demands your attention from the first sniff to the lingering finish. Aromas of redwood forest, rosemary, purple flowers and black cherries, then black tea, pomegranate, dark cherry, dried raspberry and wild mushroom flavors. Fine-grained moderate tannins and crunchy acidity give it such a firm backbone. Drink now or hold" through 2031. If you don't know RAEN, it is a Sonoma Coast winery that focuses on Pinot Noir and considers their land and terroir capable of producing some of the world's finest Pinots. Behind the helm is Carlo and Dante Mondavi, sons of Robert, to whom they've dedicated this wine. Quality grapes, French oak, whole cluster fermantation, and native yeast... they've done everything right with this bottle. Give it a try and see what a world-class American Pinot is like.

Wine PickĀ šŸ„‚

One of the new Bordeaux wines we got in a week or two ago is a great Merlot, Clos de l'EspĆ©rance 2024 Lussac Saint-Ɖmilion. The owner, Jules Monroux, is a 5th generation winemaker, and this winery was his first investment at the ripe old age of 22. Now 15 years later, he's still making quality Merlot wines from 40-year-old vines on his property on the Right Bank. If you think you don't like Merlot, you need to try one from France, and this one won't break the bank at $19.99. "Silky smooth and medium-bodied, this is a stunning bottle of wine from a talented young winemaker at a price you don't see every day. 100% Merlot, and will age well through 2028 if you can wait." Raspberry, dark cherry, black currant, dark chocolate, hints of oak, vanilla, and smooth tannins. Beautifully balanced and elegant. Ideal with duck, lamb, or barbecue.

Oyster Selection 🦪

We have more Fleur de Mers from PEI, but new to the mix this week are Great Whites from Cape Cod. They're called Great Whites so obviously... they're big. Large, deep cups, moderate salinity, and notes of melon and citrus. Clean with a sweet aftertaste. Great baked or on the half shell.

Final ThoughtsĀ šŸ’¬

The heat wave finally seems to have broken, and we have a true and actual Fall out there. Leaves changing, crisp mornings, and hey it actually rained one day. It's about time. Time for me to switch to my winter wardrobe? Not quite. I've given up the sandals but can't quit shorts just yet... we'll see what these next few weeks bring. Until then...

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
