We couldn’t do what we do without each and every one of you, and we will continue working hard to keep getting in your favorites and new and interesting things for you to try.

Wine News🍷

A new season is upon us, and while we won’t be changing the entire wine list at the bar, we are looking to switch out a few of the selections. Be on the lookout for that soon…

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

This week’s feature came in last week, Morgan 2020 Twelve Clones Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County, CA. We are fans of Morgan wines because they farm organically and sustainably and use minimal intervention in their wine making. The name Twelve Clones comes from the various Pinot Noir grape clones that they use in their Pinot Noir blend, giving in layers of complexity. “The 2020 Twelve Clones demonstrates the finesse typical of Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands. Aromas of black cherry, tobacco, and espresso bean are complemented by flavors of black fruit and a hint of sweet and savory spices. Perfectly poised, this medium plus bodied wine is supported by rich tannins.” This Pinot Noir got 94 points from Wine Enthusiast, which makes $34.99 almost a bargain. Pair it with grilled chicken or salmon for a perfect meal.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

My pick for this week is a new Syrah from France, François Villard 2020 L’appel des Sereines Syrah. The girls tried it this week and thought it was a well-balanced wine for a great price, only $16.99. And since it’s from the Rhône Valley, where I’m currently stationed, it was a no brainer. François Villard was first trained as a chef but quickly learned that food and wine go hand in hand, so he set about creating his own wines made to pair with food. This light, juicy, and elegant Syrah offers cherry and blackberry flavors with a jolt of black pepper, and it pairs perfectly with some roasted meat or aged cheese.

Food News 🐟

Finish out this warm weather streak with some goods for the grill! We have our Prime Hand-Cut Strip Steaks in at $22.99/lb. We have a couple already packaged and even more that we can cut down specially for you. We also got Fresh Wild-Caught Halibut back in this week, running at $29.99/lb. If you’ve never had Halibut on the grill, you’re missing out. Just pick a thicker cut, top with some fresh lemon and herbs, and cook at a medium-high heat for 6-7 minutes per side.

Oyster News 🦪

We got in a new oyster this week: Royal Canadian Oysters out of PEI. “The Royal Canadian oyster is carefully cultivated for 6 to 7 years in crystal clear waters. Its farming relies on a unique fusion of techniques; it is first firmly wedged in the clay soil of Hunter River, where this oyster begins its journey. After about 3 years, each oyster is hand harvested and placed in cages suspended on the surface. Thenceforth, the currents and tides shape it. The result: a polished, regular shell, with a dense flesh, offers a pronounced, boldly saline taste, with a touch of wild mushrooms.” They even came decked out in a nice Canadian red box.

Final Thoughts 💬

Well, I got into a little accident in France… I know what you’re thinking, and I was stone-cold sober! I have witnesses. But if you’re going to do it, do it right and get both the front and back of the car in one mishap. It took a team of three at the rental car agency laughing and joking and taking pictures… the one time I really wanted to understand the language… In the meantime, enjoy a few more photos of my trip. I’ve been eating my heart out and enjoying every bite.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
