WINE NEWS…
We’ve brought plenty of new wines this week for you to try and we’ve got a few bargains coming next week that will definitely surprise and excite all!
Dan’s Wine Feature
Burgess Cellars Topography is my feature for this week, while I only have a few of these bottles I can always get more. Steve Burgess of Burgess Cellars explained the name as an homage to the property his family has been making wine on for the last 50 years. All high slope, hillside property in Napa allows this vineyard to produce great wines, their flagship Cabernet is the perfect example. Topography is comprised of 62% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot and 8% Syrah allowing this big red to be a classy and quafable wine with valley suppleness and a mountain core. For $45.99 you can enjoy a great Napa Valley Red that’s full of bright red fruit, cherry, raspberry, floral, bramble and tea leaf, with notes of cherry cola, a hint of vanilla, all great flavors with a well balanced acidity. Plus, it will go great with this week’s Surf and Turf food special
Dan’s Wine Pick
My pick is Frogs Leap Shale & Stone 2018 Chardonnay, we tried this wine for an upcoming event and even though it wasn’t chosen, it was chosen by me! Four decades of wine making at Frogs Leap allows the original owner and his team to produce some of Napa Valleys best wines. Shale and Stone is certainly no exception. Having visited Frogs Leap a few years back I became a big fan, owner and winemaker John Williams began his career at none other than Stag’s Leap and began practicing his new found craft at a 100 year old falling down property known as the Frog Farm. John and Larry Turley produced their first batch of Chardonnay from the property in a hot tub, bottled it and celebrated their new venture with copious amounts of hot tub chard and a wonderful dinner a new valley restaurant Mustards…John no longer uses the hot tub method, nowadays it’s 5 days in barrel and then promptly placed in concrete vats for sur lie storage and aging until he determines it’s release. For $29.99 you can see what 40 decades brings to the table and taste this experience of a Napa Valley institution. I’m pretty sure that this wine will pair perfectly with any of the new seafood’s we brought in this week.
