News 🗞
Well, as promised, we got ourselves together and worked out the events for the rest of the year. We will of course be adding additional weekend specials and smaller things like that as we go, but at least the big items are planned out, starting with this weekend. The Autumnal Equinox is this Sunday, so on Saturday, we'll be paying homage to the changing of the seasons. Say farewell to Summer with Smoked Brisket Nachos and hello to Fall with Frozen Bourbon Apple Cider. The Nachos will have the buttery and salty Fiesta Grande tortilla chips with smoked & shredded brisket, a creamy queso, pickled onions, and maybe even some jalapeños. Okay okay, maybe we'll make it a Sandwich too. The Frozen Bourbon Apple Cider... no introduction needed. We bring this back every year, and it's always a favorite and the perfect transition from Summer to Fall... especially when we're still sitting firmly in the 80s. And it also happens to be Boubon Heritage Month, sooo that's a no brainer. Then for those of you who are Bordeaux fans, we got in the last of the state's inventory on a favorite, Chateau d'Armhailhac 2017 Pauillac Grand Cru Classé -- not only did we get the last of the state's inventory, we got it in at $10 under normal retail price.
Wine Feature ⭐️
The feature of the week, Marqués de Riscal 2018 Gran Reserva Rioja from Spain, has quite the history. The winery was founded in 1858 and was the first ever winery to bottle Rioja wine. In 1895, it became the first non-French wine to win the top spot at the Bordeaux Exhibition. Throughout the 20th century, the wine developed fans by the likes of Salvador Dalí and Ernest Hemingway. Just last year, it was ranked the second-best vineyard in the world... for the third year in a row. Quite the pedigree. It truly is the benchmark for Rioja wine. This bottle is a Gran Reserva Rioja, the highest classification possible, meaning it's made from the quality Tempranillo grapes and has aged for a minimum of five years. The vines used are 80+ years old, certified organic. "Supple and smooth, this classic Rioja shows complexity, aromatic intensity, balsamic notes, lightly toasted aromas, plum, spice, and soft red berries. Plums again, plus spice on the harmonious palate, which also has a hint of leather and tobacco. Good acidity with polished tannins, round and persistent." With excellent aging potential, this bottle is a steal at $49.99.
Wine Pick 🥂
The pick is something else we snagged the state's inventory on, Neyers 2021 Chardonnay. Neyers Vineyards is a California producer, but they are inspired by French principles like organic farming, natural yeasts, and traditional winemaking practices. This Chardonnay, which is comprised of grapes from both Carneros and Sonoma, is thus aged in French oak, giving it finesse and elegance while still maintaining the richness of California fruit. From Jim Gordon, "Vivid, rich aromas of roasted peanuts, butterscotch and toasted oak lead to ultraripe golden apple and marzipan flavors in this full-bodied, lush and soft wine. Its indulgent richness coats the taste buds and clings to the sides of the mouth for a lingering finish." Drink now or age it for a couple of years. At $29.99, this one should be a real people pleaser for any Chardonnay fans out there.
Food Feature 🐖
This week we have for you some Fresh Pork Loin from White Marble Farms for $9.99/lb. It's from "White Marble Farms brand offers quality, all-natural, minimally processed pork products without added or artificial ingredients. Source verified producers across the Midwestern countryside are responsible for carefully producing every pig used for White Marble Farms premium pork. These farmers devote individualized attention to the animals, and promote and practice sustainable agriculture." These are nice little cuts of pork for an even nicer price. It's such a versatile piece of meat, you can do almost anything with it. It's particularly fantastic with all those Fall flavors we'll soon start eating!
Oyster Feature 🦪
Two oysters this week, the first being Glidden Points out of Maine's Damariscotta River. These oysters are medium in size with a green-tinted, easy-to-open shell. They are also the only oysters in the world to be hand-harvested by divers. They crisp and buttery with moderate brine. "The Stag" from PEI is the second oyster this week. These are on the larger side, 3-3.5 inches, and they are known for having a distinct nuttiness to them. Try a crisp Chablis with the Glidden Points and a nice sancerre with the Stags.

Final Thoughts 💬
Well I am off this weekend... can you believe it? And no, I'm not going to Italy. I will be staying stateside and taking a long weekend in North Carolina with Yogi. That's right, just a man and his dog, like God intended. And his wife too, of course... I will be eating and drinking my way through Asheville, and as always, keeping an eye out for inspiration to bring home to all of you. Don't miss me too much, and make sure to come in and keep the girls company.
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
