Wine News

Finally getting some of our old summer favorites back in stock. It seems as though that the supply chain from all points is becoming a bit more fluid. New Rose’s are still coming in and we also have some great new big reds for you to pick up.

Dan’s Wine Feature

Post & Beam 2019 Cabernet from Far Niente is my feature for this week and at $49.99 with this type of pedigree this should be all you need to know. Long awaited and finally here this new Cabernet from this preeminent producer is noted as follows, “this

wine offers up elegant layers of fruit, supple tannins, whispers of oak and a finish that is pure finesse. Pure, fresh plum, violet and sage aromas lead to a round palate layered with ripe plum, dark berry and black currant flavors. Leather, cedar and dried herb accents, along with whispers of vanilla and oak provide depth, while lithe acidity keeps the wine lifted, balanced and bright. Supple tannins feel like suede-velvet and carry the elegant fruit and spice flavors into a finish that goes on and on. This debut vintage is pure finesse”. I’m pretty certain this soon will become a store favorite.

Dan’s Pick

Colombelle Colombard/Sauvignon is my pick for this week. This is the bottle I took home and promptly drank it…all by myself on the patio Memorial Day. What’s not to like in this 2020 Cotes De Gascogne summer stunner. I’ll inevitably fill my wine fridge at home with this soon because at $10.99 it’s a patio, porch and well anywhere in or around your house bargain to enjoy. The Gascogne is known for these wines, grapes are picked when the morning is still cool and then transported on ice to begin the process of becoming what we have here for you now. Don’t trust me, come in and try a glass at the bar and then go grab a couple for the weekend!

Food News

With Fathers Day on the horizon we’ve decided to offer up Fathers Day Dinner Boxes, you simply stop in, tell us how many will be enjoying dinner and together we’ll pick out some great hand cut steaks or chops, choose from our potatoes and vegetables, toss in a loaf of Tribeca bread and you’ll be set to put a smile on any fathers face. Wine and beer will just complete the perfect gift for Dad. From 2 for dinner to 20, we can help take care of this years Fathers Day Dinner celebration!

Food Feature of the Week

Copper River Salmon is definitely my feature for this week; I haven’t had a piece of this special Salmon in over twenty years. Copper River Salmon is noted as the finest piece of Salmon in the world and its season in Alaska is relatively short. Every year, the middle of May marks the beginning of the Copper River Salmon season. Stretching maybe through September, this season is awaited around the world for its renowned wild King, Sockeye, and Coho salmon. These fantastic fish are the crown jewel of the salmon world. In preparation for their herculean task of swimming up the 300 mile Copper River these salmon pack on rich energy reserves – evident in the copious supply of healthy and delicious omega-3 fatty acids stored in their bodies. While not cheap, we’ll have fillets available until gone. If you’re a Salmon lover, this is the best there is!

Final Thought

Quoting one of my earliest mentors Popeye the Sailor , “I Yam what I Yam” these words pretty much answer the question of “what are we here at the Wine Merchant now?”. Not sure how many times we’re asked daily “will you go back to the way you used to be”, “we miss your lobster bisque and wraps”, “is pizza night coming back?” while we enjoy hearing that and want you to know that those words are very humbling, I just have to say it once again and of course paraphrasing my early mentor, “We Yar What we Yar…

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
