News 🗞
Findlay Oktoberfest, this Saturday. I don't know if you realize this, but Munich's Oktoberfest lasts a full two weeks... Poor us, we've got to fit all the fun into one day. If you are heading to the festivities on Saturday, make sure to stop in and spend some time with us. We will have our own music going, comfortable chairs, and an Oktoberfest on draft. It's also pretty fun to people watch from in here... If you're celebrating at home and need to stock up, we've still got a selection of Festbiers and other German beers and wines. We WILL be getting in two cases of Spaten Oktoberfest tomorrow (Friday), which we hardly ever get, so first come first serve on those. Keep in mind we will be closing the bar at 5pm and the store at 6pm for our Oktoberfest Dinner. For those of you signed up for that, we've got a fun menu planned and look forward to seeing you. In other news, we brought in a few wines of note this week, the first being your favorite Halloween blend, Bogle Phantom. We also snagged a couple more closeout deals, a Rhône-style blend for $11.99 and a baby version of an Amarone for $9.99. These wines are one and done, so grab some at this bargain price while they're available.
Wine Feature ⭐️
The feature this week is maybe one of the prettiest bottles we've had in quite a while: Dourbie 2021 Marius Rouge. The Dourbie estate, named after the river that flows through the property, was founded in southern France in 1781. They are a smaller property with two distinct terroirs and microclimates, so they work hard to protect what makes them special with a focus on biodiversity, organic farming, and native grapes. The Marius Rouge consists of 50% Cinsault, 25% Grenache, and 25% Syrah. "Grown from the estate's best plots, Marius is an easy-drinking wine, subtly fruity and slightly bawdy." Bawdy??? Ok, definitely French. I got that from the back of the bottle, so I found a better description online: "A delicate nose of red berries (morello cherry) and dark berries (blackcurrant). Clear, rounded, smooth tannins against beautiful, generous fresh fruit, giving way to a finish full of freshness. A well-balanced, velvety finish." Try it for $27.99 and pair it with duck, beef, barbecue, or a nice stew.
Wine Pick 🥂
Of course we had to pick something German... Selbach 2022 Riesling Kabinett for $17.99. I like this bottle because it just looks classically German, but Johannes Selbach is also a big name in Riesling. His family has been making wine along the steep slopes of the Mosel for nearly 400 years. "Selbach Rieslings are not trendy wines that change according to the whims of fashion, nor are they made according to a recipe. They are true characters, wines with structure, wines that display their heritage, rooted deep into the slate rock like our old vines...." If that doesn't entice you, I don't know what will. This particular bottle comes to us from the Saar region, which is the northern part of Moselland where the Saar River meets the Mosel. So I guess we've got kind of a river theme going today... "You’ll find the intensive aromas of apple and peach, while the off-dry palate shows a perfect balance of sweetness and ripe acidity. The finish is long, and notes of slate and green apple linger and make your mouth water for more."
Food Feature 🐖
We're back to pork this week with Frozen Fully Cooked Osso Bucco Demi-Glace Pork Shanks, $14.99 for a full 1.5 lb shank. This is a natural pork hindshank, hand-seasoned with a spice rub, infused with Demi Glace de Porc Classic, then finally oven-seared and and slow-braised for hours. They do all the hard work so you can just reheat it. Simply thaw it out, then simmer it for 20 minutes in boiling water. Couldn't be easier. It would be perfect this weekend with some Spaetzel.

Final Thoughts 💬
As I mentioned last week, I spent the weekend and first part of this week down in Asheville. Beautiful place, beautiful time of year, terrible allergens. It seems that while I was gone, Fall finally hit. Time is really going to start flying now. Next week is October, believe it or not. So find some time, rest up, and enjoy the season because it won't last long...
Prost from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
