This Week’s Tastings Cincinnati vs. Cleveland will be this week’s lineup for beer tasting, Madtree and Fat Head’s, our chosen breweries this week. We’ll start off with Madtree in the number one and two spots, first will be Koru, a New Zealand style Lager and next will be Shade, a Blackberry Tart Ale. Three and four will be from Fat Head’s their Zeus Juice, a Belgian Style Golden Ale and then to finish we’ll try a little Strange Magic, their new IPA . All of these beers are great choices to sit on the patio and watch this week’s Balloon Fest! Hope to see you Saturday…

Feature Item This week’s feature is the 2017 Molly Dooker Blue Eyed Boy. This is a big, elegant Shiraz that is certainly sure to please. Wine makers notes describe it as, “Expressive rich fruit that has long been the trademark for this flavored Shiraz, the alluring nose offers fresh plum and mocha, while on the palate blueberry and plum jam mingle harmoniously with milk chocolate to create a deliciously silky mouth feel. O.K., I’m in, I have long been a favorite of these wines and while they used to come in once a year we’ve been told to expect a more plentiful supply of these wines. While tipping the scales at approximately 16.5% this wine is no toy and while priced at $62.99 it may not become a daily drinker but if you like Shiraz this is an indulgence that shouldn’t be passed up.

Dan's Pick This week’s pick is from Domaine Estrade, their 2018 Cotes de Gascogne from France for $12.99. We’ve always been a fan of these wines, and when we come across another one we feel the need to share it with you. While this wine is almost always a blend of Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc an Ugni Blanc, Domaine Estrade is no exception. Comprised of all estate fruit this is your quintessential summer white, we haven’t steered you wrong yet with these wines, so if you’re looking for something refreshing while we still have some summer sun, this white blend will surely please all and at this price you can buy and drink plenty of them!

Final Thought So, we’ve been listening and beginning this week we will have something a little more substantial for you on Friday and Saturday evenings. This weekend we’ll feature a sandwich that I believe will fit the bill. House smoked pork loin, pit ham, Swiss cheese, Dijon mustard, dill pickle slices placed on the press and then of course taken to the table. I’ve always wanted to serve a true Cubano and this week we’ll do it. Will that be the sandwich special for next week…no, something different will be created to share with you. We’ll start serving these sandwiches at 4pm. All right, we’re not going back to an entire evening menu but we will have something more substantial for you on Fridays and Saturdays because after all, we do listen…

Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
