News 🗞

As you may have surmised, we're all about the grill this week. Knock on wood, but it seems the weather has finally taken a turn for the better... it may be a little chillier than desired, but the skies at least look mostly clear for the foreseeable future. We picked some wines and foods specifically for you to enjoy on the patio this weekend. We have several food items back in stock, including Prime Strips, Duroc Pork Chops, and Pacifico Striped Bass, and as always we have our Fresh Salmon which is fantastic off the grill, as well as a couple kinds of Oysters if you're feeling adventurous. Know what else would be good? Pig Wings, which we just so happen to be featuring this Friday for 419 Day in Downtown Findlay. I know we ran out of these last time, so we thought we'd amp it up and try again. We will toss them in a Blackberry BBQ Sauce and then serve with a side of Vegetables & Ranch. A classic weekend treat, don't you think? We're also bringing back the Fresh Striped Bass Ceviche that we had a few weeks ago... Fresh Pacifico Striped Bass, some onion and fresh vegetables, marinated in orange and lime juice and served with salty tortilla chips. Come grab a food special and then hit up the rest of the shops downtown for their Boutique Crawl... or come here after and relax with a glass of wine. Either way, hope to see you then.

Wine Feature ⭐️

This week we're featuring the Marietta Cellars 2021 Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon. It comes to us from the Yorkville Highlands AVA in California's Anderson Valley and is thus named because of all the tracks made by wild game in the area. These grapes are from a rocky hillside higher in elevation that get some of the strong coastal winds of the Pacific, creating a Cab of "extraordinary intensity and clarity" and notes of Mediterranean herbs like sage and thyme. There are only 10 acres of grapes planted in this vineyard, making this $43.99 bottle pretty special and worth the price. (We also have it available in a 1.5L for $79.99 if you should be so enticed.) It got an extraordinary 94 points from Robert Parker, who says "The 2021 Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon is crunchy, refreshing and easy to drink. It's scented of fresh blackcurrants and cherries, plus nuances of garrigue and charcuterie. The full-bodied palate is light on its feet with softly chalky tannins, bursts of mouthwatering acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish." If you want a delicious bottle of red to go with a steak straight off the grill, this is the one.

Wine Pick 🥂

Château d'Estoublon 2023 Roseblood Rosé from Provence -- the first 2023 rosé we got in this year, and a very tasty one at that. It is comprised of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Cinsault and 5% Rolle (Vermentino). "Grenache provides the rounded structure along with notes of cherries, raspberries and spice. The Syrah adds a little color and the slight tannins that come along. Cinsault, known for its finesse, provides balance and delicate aromas. Rolle, a white grape, adds a burst of acidity and freshness to the wine, rounding out the package. The Roseblood rose shows more richness and fruit than we normally expect from Provence, with strawberries and white peach melding harmoniously with a concentrated mineral tone that buoys its floral tones. Refreshing and delicious for the warm days ahead, the wine also possesses enough oomph to drink on the cold nights we all know are bound to come back, if only for a week or two!" Château d'Estoublon has been making wine for over 500 years in Provence, but a new owner, Jean-Guillaume Prats of Lafite-Rothschild, and a new winemaker, Victor Joyeaux formerly of Cloudy Bay, are giving it new life. Yeah... they know how to make a good wine. Based on their pedigree, this wine is bargain at $24.99 and is a perfect start to your rosé season.

Food Feature 🥩

We obviously opted to bring in some delicious cuts for the grill, including Prime Strips and Duroc Pork Chops. While these are not new to us by any means, they did take a little hiatus from the store, and we're pleased to have them back in for you this week. Prime Strips are from the short loin of the cow, and they have a fine texture and rich marbling, making for a delicious cut that you can prepare any way you'd like, but obviously... they shine on the grill. Prime is the highest USDA grade of beef, so you know they'll be good at $24.99/lb. On the pork side of things, Duroc is a type of pig that has been bred to combine the best attributes of other breeds. Their meat is flavorful, juicy, and tender, and these chops are huge, easily feeding two people. Grab one for a mere $12.99.

Oyster Feature 🦪

We're back to Thunder Coves from PEI this week. These oysters are big, juicy, and salty with deep cups and plump meat. They are great any way you choose to eat them, whether on the half shell or baked. We also got in some Sweet Golds, also from PEI. They are a little smaller than the Thunder Coves, though still with a deep cup, and as the name suggests, they are sweet in addition to being salty.

Final Thoughts 💬

We're over halfway through April already. Can you believe it? They say the older you get, the faster time flies, and believe you me... it's flying pretty fast for me right now. But in less than a month, I will be back in Italy, where hopefully time will slow down for a couple of weeks. Until then... you know where to find me.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
