Wine News š¾
A few things new and returned this week. Weāre currently receiving some high-end allocations. Opus, Patrimony, Shafer Hillside Select, and Sea Smoke Pinot Noir will soon be in house. Weāve been notified and have accepted everything offered to us from our distributors. More information on each will be coming shortly.
Danās Feature āļø
My feature for this week is a product I had in a few months ago that sold out in a few days: the 2018 Yamhill Valley Estate Pinot Noir. This McMinnville, Oregon producer overdelivers on this $21.99 bottle. āThe Burger family, who founded in 1983 whatās now the oldest winery in Oregonās McMinnville American Viticultural Area, and homegrown winemaker Ariel Eberle continue to release wines worthy of acclaim in the wake of being named 2019 Oregon Winery of the Year. Their flagship bottling is this estate Pinot Noir, a sweep of the 150-acre site that features Pommard, Wadensvil and a handful of Dijon clone fruit that spent eight months in a barrel program with a discreet impact of wood from 10% new French oak. That allows it to take on a Burgundian approach with its earthiness and incredible balance that swirls in a wealth of dark blue fruit, a scrape of vanilla bean, and sense of forest floor. Thereās richness through the mid-palate that gathers up white pepper and Craisin for the pleasantly long finish.ā On their own website, these bottles sell for $28.00, so considering that weāre selling them for 20% less, this has got to be a go-to bottle. Pinot Noir and fall dishes go beautifully together, and Iām sure this wine will particularly please in that regard.
Danās Pick š„
This weekās pick is not necessarily new, but at a new discounted price, Joseph Drouhin 2020 Bourgogne Blanc from France canāt be missed. One has to remember that France expects us to understand what grapes are grown in each of their notable wine regions, so when we see Bourgogne (Burgundy) and see that itās a white wine, weāre supposed to know that itās Chardonnay. Joseph Drouhin is one of the biggest negotiants in Burgundy. His wines, both rouge (Pinot Noir) or blanc (Chardonnay) are at every price point and all quite delicious. This weekās pick is no exception, and at $17.99, itās a great expression of Chardonnay. If you or someone else you know enjoys Chardonnay, this would be a great alternative to Californiaās many choices. To me, Chardonnay is another Fall classic wine that pairs well with anything. Great wine at a great price, so why donāt you stop in and pick up a few for this weekend.
Food News š°
Food prices are remaining steady, but unfortunately, those prices are still high for some products. Prime Beef is the one Iām watching the most. Choice cuts are well priced, and Dry Aged Prime Cuts are steady; itās simply the primal cuts of Ribeyes, Short Loins, and Strip Loins that havenāt fallen. Pork prices have remained along with Salmon and Cod. Lobster and Crab have finally come down, and I purchased both to have in house to share with you. Itās a daily ritual down here, searching for the best prices on the best items that we can get in to have ready and waiting for your table. As always, if youāre looking for anything special, check with us.
*JUST IN: Sand Dune Oysters from PEI. Theyāre BIG. Theyāre green. Theyāre beautiful and perfect for Oysters Rockefeller. Come give them a try.
**ALSO JUST IN: Jim Jim's Raw Local Honey. Jimmy is a young guy from the area who works as a beekeeper and makes some stellar honey. It's beautifully presented and would make a great gift.

Final Thoughts š¬
I love Fall. Itās by far my favorite season. Itās harvest for so many things, with grapes obviously being the most important item for me. Getting vintage reports are always fun to read, and the forecasts for each varietal begins to paint a picture of what we can expect. Shorter days, cooler weather, and Fall sports alongside the falling leaves allows us to enjoy this season. We all know what comes next, so kick back, open up whatever sounds good, and have yourself a wonderful season.
Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
