News 🗞

The holiday weekend approaches... are you ready? If not, we've got you covered. We have Block & Barrel Applewood Smoked Hams, Dearborn Spiral Honey Glazed Hams, a small quanitity of Fresh Lamb Racks. And of course all of the seafood for the final days of Lent... Scallops, Shrimp, Salmon, Saku Blocks, Lobster, Vegetarian Pizzas, Vegetarian Pastas, Potatoes, Cheeses, etc etc etc. I could go on. And of course we have all of the wine to go with whichever option you should choose, and we're more than happy to help you pick that out. We are slowly but surely filling in all of the holes in the store with new options or old favorites. And if you didn't see on social media, we finally decided what we're doing this Friday for the last weekend of Lent: Fritto Misto. This is a fried seafood platter that you'll see anywhere and everywhere in Italy, and we're taking it on. You'll get a basket with Fried Oysters, Clams, Shrimp, and Soft Shell Crab, all with a side of Fries and a Remoulade to dip, $22. And of course not one but two Italian Glass Pours to go with. We'll also have a dessert this week, Individual Key Lime Pies for $6. That is, if we don't eat them all first. All of this tomorrow from 4-7pm while supplies last.


Wine Feature ⭐️

This week's feature is a staff favorite, so I can't believe we haven't featured it before... Gigondas La Cave 2021 L'Hallali Grande Reserve, $33.99 a bottle. This is a classic GSM from France's Rhône Valley, specifically the Southern Rhône where Grenache is king. It is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault, juicy and medium- to full-bodied with notes of dark cherry, currant, blackberry, fig, and a hint of olive and subtle French oak. And while all wines are deeply influenced by their terroir and the land in which they grow, there is something special about the Southern Rhône. I found this description from the New York Times: "In the south of France, people have a name for the scrubby vegetation that grows in forests and woodlands, generally on limestone soils. It is garrigue, and its wonderfully distinctive herbal aroma immediately tells you where you are." Notes of wild rosemary, sage, thyme, and lavender leave their footprint on wines from this region, including this bottle, giving them a freshness that is quite appealing. It would be a fantastic bottle for your Easter table if lamb or steaks are on the menu.


Wine Pick 🥂

If ham is on your menu this weekend, then this Pick is for you: Thibaud Boudignon 2024 Rosé de Loire. This French Rosé is from the Loire Valley, 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Grolleau. The former provides the body, and the latter provides acidity and a tiny bit of spice. Pristine fruit from 30+ year old vines and multiple types of soil, biodynamically farmed, and then pressed with a very brief skin contact. "That brief and gentle skin contact is one of the secrets to Boudignon’s beautiful light color, and pure, precise flavors... Beautiful on its own, this is also a natural with any lighter meal: vibrant and refreshing, with precise flavors of wild strawberry, pink grapefruit, and watermelon rind, underscored by a striking mineral core and saline finish." This is a dynamic bottle for $24.99. The 2024 rosés are rolling in every week now, but this is the first one we're choosing to feature.

Final Thoughts 💬

As we mentioned last week, some fresh faces in the shop, and now... a fresh wine list. Beer list too, actually. And before you know it, the patio will emerge from hibernation. It looks like the true cold is finally past, but you never know. This is the Midwest, after all. But all in due time. We're tired enough as it is.
