Store News

We’re ready to help you with both of the dates above. Be it beverages and snacks for the game or a Valentine’s Day meal, we’ll put together for you… we’re ready to help. For Valentine’s Day, we have a simple special dinner for you. It’s apparent that Saturdays are becoming something special here at the Wine Merchant. We want to bend a little to what you liked so much while trying to maintain that which we’ve become. So, come in on Saturday and enjoy that which we used to share with you…

Wine News

Whereas this will be a strange week, we at least have our feature, pick and a few new wines to share with you. Stop in and pick up a few, they may just be what you need for a snowy night indoors.

Dan’s Feature

This week’s pick is from Ruffino once again. A couple weeks ago, I was bringing in the great 3-bottle deal from this producer. Those are all gone unfortunately, but I found cases of their 2017 Modus Toscana (their super Tuscan that was in the box set). This blend of 37% Sangiovese, 32% Merlot and 31% Cabernet make this a classic Bolgheri Super Tuscan and pretty much insures that it will be a smooth, mid weight red that will go with anything, especially Italian! Buddy’s Pizza you bet; fresh Paparedelle, uhh..huhh; Veal Ravioli with Pomordorina and Barolo Wine sauce, absolutely…when it was $26 a bottle it was still worth it, but now at $18.99 it’s a steal! If you want a great bottle and a great meal to get you through this upcoming weather interruption, then we’ve got everything you need to hunker down.

Dan’s Pick

Domaine Tariquet 2018 Vin Blanc Classique Cotes de Gascogne is my pick for this week. Keeping the faith and thinking about the South of France…This week’s pick is “a blend of Ugni Blanc and Colombard, with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc and Gros Manseng. The classic cuvée is the standard-bearer of the estate's wines: an intense and aromatic wine, with floral and citrus scents and exotic nuances. A crisp wine full of freshness!” The Gascogne is one of my favorite white wine regions of France. I’ve had a plethora of them and have written about their production technique many times. Harvested in the very early cool morning hours, kept chilled until pressing and then cold pressed to preserve the bright, expressive flavors that Ugni Blanc, Gros Manseng, Sauvignon Blanc and Colombard can produce. This is the wine you sit and drink, sure think about the nuances if you want… At a whopping $11.99, I’m just keeping my glass full and considering opening another bottle…

Food News

I know, I know you’re looking for milk and eggs but hey we will have fresh Halibut and Swordfish on Thursday…hopefully! Our primary food purveyor has begun to bring a few different fish in fresh each week. These fish are super fresh and only available to us on Thursdays, always at a great price and I have to order them before noon on Monday. So obviously, you guessed it Halibut and Swordfish for this week!

Food Feature of the Week

The only thing that I can guarantee as a feature this week is Loch Duarte Salmon. There’s nothing new about it and for many it’s become a staple— the reason being that it’s so darn fresh and so darned good. Every time it comes in, I still get excited that this is a product that we have to share with you. We have a variety of truly premium foods down here to share with you and our salmon has been the longest, continuous item that you have wanted! So with 12lbs in today, all I can say is get while we have it… there’s real questions and concerns about a second delivery this week.

Final Thoughts

I never get too nervous about the weather having made it through the blizzard of ’78. I think we’ll get by this interruption. If powers on, I’ll be in the store. Keep an eye on social media for any of our updates and get what you need early and stay safe…

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
