HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

4 short days till the end of 2022!!!

Hours of Operation

Monday – Saturday

10am to 6pm

Calendar

Jan 14 (Sat) - It’s Papa al Pomodoro all day long. Not interested in a rich, tomato, peasant soup? Fine, we’ll also be serving Mortadella sandwiches. It just seems like the thing to do on a cold Saturday in January. On top of that, if you’re interested in going to Italy any time soon, Gianni will also be in the back room from 1:00pm to 4:00pm answering questions and sharing information about 2023 trips.

Jan 21 (Sat) - It’s back…Oyster-O-Rama That’s right, but this time we’re bringing in a few more maybe like 500 more! On the half shell, New Orleans style or Rockefeller. Have them your way, Saturday all day!

Store News 🏬

No new news this week, we’re excited about 2023 beginning here in a few days and I’m sure we’ll have something to share with you real soon.

Wine News🍷

Nothing new being brought around so nothing new in the racks. I’m sure there will be plenty of new wines being brought out to try soon, we’re looking forward to making a few changes in the racks. Stay tuned!

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

Champagne! That’s my feature and I’m not picking just one! We’ve got great Champagnes down here and they’re exactly what you need for ushering the New Year. Sparkling from $9.99 and Champagnes to $349.99 and at every price point in between. To be honest the $9.99 bottle isn’t a Champagne… We certainly have all the mainstays, Dom Perignon, Veuve Cliquot, Taittinger, Piper Heidsieck, Drappier just to name a few. Our personal favorites however, are our grower produced Champagnes. These wonderful bottles are from individual families that just happen to be farmers, grape growers, and surprisingly Champagne producers! These are people that live off their success’s, they’re not corporately owned, instead they consist of a small group of winemakers from the Marne Valley region, who have been practicing skills they inherited from a family venture founded in the mid -1600s. Not only do we love their storied past, but absolutely adore their products. Amongst the growers, they themselves choose, seasonally, the Champagnes that they consider to be their “Special Club” wines, literally the best of the best. We certainly enjoy these wines ourselves, as well as sharing them with you and your special celebration. Stop in and take a look at our selections, and we’ll help you pick out a great one for your New Years Celebration.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

I’m a traditionalist, New Years Day is always the same, a great cut of pork, sauerkraut, and all the German favorites, which, of course, brings me to my pick…Weingut Ferdinand Richter Max 2021 Elisenberg Spatlese Riesling is my pick for this week. Not only does Riesling pair perfectly with any meal, it is at its best when paired with German fare, be it knockwurst and sauerkraut, or a luscious pork roast. The “Veldenzer Elisenberg produces completely independent Riesling wines. Situated in a south-south-western exposure, the vineyard is somewhat cooler in a side valley of the Mosel. The cool location and its unique soil with a high proportion of quartzite, make the Riesling growing here a stylistic speciality in the Mosel valley. On the nose, the Spätlese from the Elisenberg is cool and sublimely floral, with a fine scent of white spring flowers and a lovely exotic fruit aroma of passion fruit. Notes of ripe pear and red berries complement the imposing aroma. Lots of racy acidity on the palate, with lively, polished and finely juicy fruit. The Spätlese appears taut and slender. The minerality is almost chalky and brings fine salt to the tongue in the background. Extremely elegant style and quite animatingly made. It is actually a mystery why this site is still so unknown - because the Spätlese from the Elisenberg is once again undisputedly among the vintage leaders”! I’m already looking forward to enjoying this bottle with my New Years Day festivities.

Final Thoughts 💬

It’s been an interesting year…Not necessarily putting this one up there as one my favorites but hey, that’s the personal side. All in all, the stores still going strong and we all still enjoy being here for you. As always what’s made this year is all of you, we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you. This year we were able to host our events and dinners again, hosted a variety of private parties, anniversaries, multiple birthdays, a wedding reception and before the end of this year a rehearsal dinner. We enjoy being able to make these events a special moment. We want to thank all of you for allowing us to serve you in these interests and simply thank you all for your continued support and with that we offer up our most sincere,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
