March 17 (Friday) - St. Patricks Day - We’ll be serving up Paddy’s Poutine all day long on this celebratory Friday! Irish Fries, Cheese Curds, and Corned Beef covered with our (soon-to-be) famous Irish Whiskey Gravy… and from our frozen drink machine, Five Farms Irish Cream!!! The Oysters, IRISH POINT from PEI, of course, served with a special mignonette.

March 25 (Saturday) - Lamb-O-Rama! It’s our annual event, no reservations required. Seasoned, Smoked, and Grilled Lamb served up with all the sides!

Store News 🏬

Just returned from a great food show in Detroit. We found a few new items that we’re excited about bringing in to share with you. We were able to meet some of the people behind the products that we already carry: Drakes Pasta, two gentlemen from Italy representing Bachini Pastas, representatives from Demkota Beef, and the list could go on. To place a product that we enjoy with the people behind them makes it just that much more meaningful. We buy from some great sources, great people who are in the same business as we are, finding the best items available and sharing them with others. This type of day reinforces why we do what we do…

Wine News🍷

Quite a few new wines this week. We were fortunate to have a few sales reps bring in some new options, and obviously we took advantage of it. We received three new Pinot Noirs this week that are exceptional, and from two of those properties, we picked up their Chardonnays as well. There’s actually quite a few to take a look at, so we’re pretty excited to introduce you to these new bottles.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

This week’s feature comes to us from the Andrew Murray Estate of Santa Ynez Valley, California. We’re really not sure why this wasn’t shown to us sooner; being a Shiraz/Syrah drinker, I was extremely pleased with their 2018 vintage. The winemaker describes this wine as, “simultaneously bold and balancd, rich and smooth, fruit forward and earthy. It is impossibly dark and full-bodied, without ever going over the top. It is heavily inspired by Northern Rhone Syrah and Australian Shiraz. The aromas and flavors are dominated by black cherry, raspberry, white pepper, forest floor and toasty oak." I agree wholeheartedly with these comments. This is a bottle to take home and relax with, and at $21.99, it won’t break the budget. By itself or maybe with a little Easter Lamb, this is a bottle that everyone's going to enjoy.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Quady North is a Southern Oregon producer that to say the least is passionate about Rosé. Their back label states quite clearly: “We in the Quady family have always been vociferously pro-rose. Get us in a room with some other oenophiles and we'll argue the virtues of rose until we are politely asked to leave. Whether it be its unparalleled ability as a pairing with lighter fare, there are plenty of reasons to love rose we challenge you to find your own.” Their 2022 bottling is 56% Grenache, 42% Syrah and 2% Mourvedre, a classic GSM. I’m pretty sure we here at the Wine Merchant would get along quite well with the family at Quady North. Tasting notes describe this new addition as, "A pretty pale copper color and 100% varietal, this is elegantly balanced between ripe peach and tangy acids. There's a lively tension that energizes the wine, lifting it along and through a delightfully extended finish.” This is simple, we found some great winemakers from Oregon who just happen to make a great Rosé, and we’re really happy to be able to share it with you. Being priced at $19.99 makes it a wonderful go to for, let's say… the first day of Spring 😏

Food Feature (Lenten Specials) 🍝

Cheese or Vegetable Buddy’s Pizza from Detroit is my Lent special for this week. How much simpler can it be? Purchase a salad blend from any of the grocery stores, and pick up one of our Frozen Buddy’s Pizza for $17.99. Simple, salad and Buddy's is the perfect way to end the week and remain meat-free. I’ve found it amazing that the original Detroit style pizza is produced and packaged in their Detroit pizzeria and shipped to us for the same cost of that pizza in their shop. If you haven’t had one of their pizzas, it’s high time that you swing by and pick one up.

Oyster News 🦪

This week’s special Oysters are Irish Points. They’re farm-raised in a suspension-culture located between Prince Edward Island's Hope River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Irish Points are grown out and harvested in a completely environmentally sustainable and ecologically sound fashion. These oysters have a superb salty taste as the result of the cold water in which they are grown. I think it’s obvious why we’ve chosen these as our Oysters for this week, and we’ve also created a special mignonette to accompany these on the special day!

Been a busy week here... lots of new wines, new food items on the horizon, and events sneaking up on us. We may be the furthest thing from an Irish bar, but this orange Irishman is still ready to have a little celebration tomorrow. Poutine and Irish Point Oysters all day long. No, we do not serve Guinness or Bass Ale, but we've got some Irish beers and the best Irish Cream in town... and maybe a couple bottles of Irish whiskey to help us get by. Stop on in and have a wee dram and a bite to eat with us -- we’d love to see you.
