Store News 🏬

We’re playing it by ear… we started our new hours last night and plan on seeing where that takes us for now. In other news, yesterday our Olive Oil arrived! Frantoio Sanminiatese Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a small family run business that anyone who’s gone to Italy with Gianni knows quite well. This is like no other oil you’ve had in the States. The oil comes from San Miniato, a small town in Tuscany, and is one that I always have at home. This is a finishing oil, an oil I use on my salads and vegetables, or for that special touch, a drizzle over that steak I've just taken off the grill. This is an exceptional oil, and priced at $29.99, sure, you’ll use it sparingly, but you’ll enjoy every single drop of it.

Wine News🍷

I can’t think of a single new wine we brought in this week… Well, we do have a few coming in tomorrow (Friday) from a pre-order. They’re Clio and El Nido, big, beautiful Spanish wines from Juan Gil. These two wines complete the Juan Gil lineup that we have down here. Juan Gil Red Blend, Juan Gil Silver, and Juan Gil Blue will now be joined by their two top tier wines, Clio and El Nido. Sure, they’re pricey, but these are once a year wines… you'll be seeing them as a Feature soon.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

Shaped by millions of years of plate subduction and volcanic activity, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is one of the premier Pinot Noir producing areas in the world. The Willamette Valley AVA was established in 1983, with the initial vineyard plantings beginning in 1966. This 100-mile long, 60-mile wide valley stretches between the Columbia River in the north, to just south of Eugene with the Oregon Coast Range in the west and the Cascade Mountains in the east. Due to the protection of the mountains on eastern and western boundaries, the Willamette Valley is a cooler climate region that provides for a long, gentle growing season, perfect for deliciously complex Pinot Noir. Tasting notes aptly describe the wine as such: “a brilliant core of red and bramble fruits dances with hints of cedar, passion fruit, rose petal, and turned earth. The palate is balanced, with a plush texture and a vibrant, juicy finish.” Ken Wright is a renowned producer of Pinot Noir, and this bottle reflects his efforts. I had originally been saving this bottle to feature the week of Thanksgiving; however, today it spoke to me and said today’s the day. If I’ve learned one thing in this business, it’s pay attention to what the wine is saying. Priced quite fairly at $29.99, it’s ready to drink tonight or for holding off until Thanksgiving.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

This week’s pick is Ca’ Furlan Cuvée Beatrice Prosecco from where else but Italy. I needed another Prosecco like I needed another Moscato, but when a wine comes along that drinks like this and prices out at $16.99, you buy it. I find many Proseccos are not to my liking, be it a sweetness that I pick up or something else, but this bottle passed the most crucial test… I can drink the whole bottle! Mind you that’s not my only test in buying wine, but when it comes to sparkling wine, it’s certainly a standard. As the winemaker’s notes describe, “balanced and lightly juicy, this creamy Prosecco offers textbook notes of white peach, almond skin and orchard blossom, as well as lemon zest and spice details on the finish.” My notes are much simpler: ”I can drink the whole bottle.” You can use this for any and all occasions when a sparkling is required... mix it with Aperol for an awesome Spritz, or simply sip on and savor it on its own. At $16.99, it delivers, and not sure if I’ve mentioned it already, but “you can drink the whole bottle.”

Food News 🦃

I’m excited about our new 8oz Berkshire Boneless Chops. Don’t get me wrong, I love those 14/16oz Duroc Double Bone-In Chops, but let’s be honest... that’s a lot of pork. Our new loin chops are 100% Berkshire Pork. Berkshire Pork is prized around the world for its richness, succulent texture, marbling, and complexity of flavor. The taste of it is unlike that of any other meat, carrying a distinct flavor that is far from bland, mild, or generic like other types of pork. Come and give one a try at $10.99 per chop.

Oyster News 🦪

It’s back to the Duxburys of Massachusetts for this week. They’re one of the most perfect baking oysters, and this weather kind of speaks to that. There’s no reason to turn your back on oysters during this season. Let’s be serious... this is one of the best seasons for oysters. The deep, cold waters of Massachusetts and the PEI as well produce delicious oysters. Stop in for an oyster snack anytime, and we’ll get to shuckin'!

Final Thoughts 💬

The entire month of November is an event of itself… We start with tomorrow's Art Walk, then on to next Tuesday's “Alternative” Wine Dinner, and expanded hours the remainder of the week. Before you know it, Beaujolais Nouveau will be here and we’ll be tasting and enjoying French fare. One week later and it’s Thanksgiving, with Black Friday being when we’ll be bringing out our special holiday specialty bottles. Before you know it, it’s December. Don’t even get me started on December. I do know, however, that our calendar is filling up with private events, so if you’re considering the Wine Merchant as a venue, please call early to check on our available dates… we would love to work with you.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
