A little reminder for all:
17 Days till Christmas
24 Days till the end of 2022!!!
Hours of Operation
Monday – Saturday
10am to 6pm
Wow, we all had a great time at the Champagne Tasting last Saturday…
Calendar 🗓
Dec 25 - Christmas Day (Closed)
Jan 14 - It’s Pappa al Pomodoro all day long. Not interested in a rich tomato peasant soup? Fine, we’ll also be serving Mortadella sandwiches. It just seems like the thing to do on a cold Saturday in January. On top of that, if you’re interested in going to Italy any time soon, Gianni will also be in the back room from 1:00 to 4:00 answering questions and sharing information about 2023 trips.
Store News 🏬
While the calendar is filling up for events here at the store, there are still a few open dates. If you’re still looking for a venue for a special occasion, give us a call. There is still a reasonable amount of holiday gift packs, wines, and beers on ledges awaiting you perusal, and when they’re gone, there will be no more for the remainder of this holiday season. I think a perfect motto is “shop early, shop often.” Let us know what gifting needs you may have, and we’ll take it from there.
Wine News🍷
Picked up a few new wines this week that are to say the least “tasty bargains”! Let’s be honest, anyone can find a great tasting bottle for $100; the difficulty is finding a great bottle that can be purchased for $10. Be they for Holiday gatherings or anytime you choose, we have two new great value reds from France and three great sweet from Puglia, Italy in stock and here for you. I simply wanted to bring in some terrific wines at unbelievable prices to share with you and yours for this holiday season.
Dan’s Feature ⭐️
Cakebread 2019 Two Creeks Vineyard Pinot Noir is my feature for this week. Whereas we have always carried Cakebread Chardonnay and an occasional Cabernet here and there, we have never brought in their Pinot. Tasting notes describe this bottle as, “Fragrant aromas of sweet black cherry, raspberry and rose petal introduce the rich, pure fruit of this fresh and lively pinot noir. Dense mid-palate flavors of ripe black cherry, red cherry, strawberry and plum, supported by fine, supple tannins, offer a layered complexity and glide into a round, long finish highlighting bright raspberry, cherry and mineral tones. Delicious now, this lovely pinot noir will develop additional complexity with another 3-5 years of bottle age.” This 92 point rated Pinot is just what your Christmas table deserves. We’ve been pretty luck in getting in big Pinot Noirs this year, and this bottle is right up there with the best of them at $55.99
Dan’s Pick 🥂
Have a couple Picks for this week which are of the cheap and cheerful type. Let’s be honest, it’s great to open up a $70 or $80 bottle, but when you reach for the next bottle or two, you want something a bit more price friendly, thus the notorious second bottle… We tried a few wines last week that truly fit that bill: Domaine Du Grand Caumont 2018 Merlot and Domaine Du Grand Caumont 2018 Syrah. These two French reds are just want you want for that second, third, or later bottles. Or let’s say you’re having a few people over and you don’t want to break the bank on pouring wines from your cellar. These wines are perfect for that. “The estate has existed since Roman times, when it was known as ‘Villa Manzanetto.’ It is now planted with a mixture of grape varieties and covers an area of nearly 1,000 hectares. Subsequently, the area was renamed ‘Grand Caumont' after the garrigue which overlooks the château. This hill is covered by thyme, rosemary, and southern scrubs was called ‘Capus Monti’ which means in Latin ‘the head of the hill’ gave its name to Grand Caumont. In the 9th century the domain belonged to the French King Charles Le Chauve who gave the estate to his nephew in 847.” It’s nice to know that this wine has a pedigree, but it’s even more exciting to learn that it’s a whopping $9.99 per bottle. Yep, you heard me: Nine Dollars and ninety nine cents 😳. Here’s the notes on their Merlot: “Supple, fruity, perfumed with notes of red fruit (raspberries…) and small black fruit (blackberries…), this 2018 Merlot can be drunk now when it is young or wait 2-3 years. It has to be served at a temperature of 15° to 17°. This wine will go perfectly with cold meats, white meats or grilled meats.” The Syrah: “This 2018 Syrah with notes of violet, peony, blackcurrant and blackberry can be drunk now or wait about 3 years. It is served at a temperature of 15° to 17°. This wine will go perfectly with cold meats, white or grilled meats. It is interesting to cool it before serving it in Summer.” You want an inflation buster red? Well, here’s a couple for you.
