WINE NEWS…

It’s becoming a bit more difficult this season to maintain some of our favorites, distributor belt tightening, higher tariffs, shortage of dock workers and transportation specialists are just a few of the reasons that we have been given. We’re going to keep after them and do our best to keep these items in stock.

Dan’s Wine Feature

Terrazas Las Compuertas 2015 Single Vineyard Malbec from Argentina is my feature for this week. This bottle besides being one of the finest Malbecs in existence WAS $59.99 and is NOW $39.99! Once or twice a year the price of this Malbec falls to today’s low price and that’s when I buy. Terrazas de los Andes is under the Moet – Hennessey brand and first began in the mid 1950s experimenting with producing wines in Argentina. Forming a partnership with Cheval Blanc in the 1990s elevated this property and it’s wines to some of the best wines produced in Argentina and as one would expect their Malbec proves their commitment to this project. Tasting notes describe this lush bottle as having “aromas of a ripe fruit with sweet blackberry, plum and red fruit marmalade nuances. There are also spicy hints of pepper, bay and cinnamon. The palate is dominated by intense, ripe black fruit. There are fine ripe and silky tannins producing an elegant and complex mouth feel”. While not normally a Malbec drinker this French inspired and crafted high altitude produced from some of the best Malbec in the world even has me enjoying it.

Dan’s Pick

Jolie-Laide 2019 Gamay Noire is this week’s pick. This wine is bottled young to preserve delicate aromatics, it is light, fresh and utterly charming. On the palate you’ll note wild strawberry and summer herbs with a cranberry tartness. If that doesn’t say enough, it’s a beautiful label as well. This wine can easily serve as a stand in for a Pinot Noir. While Gamay is the varietal that makes up all Nouveau Beaujolais, this bottle is quite a bit above what we have come to expect from our Beaujolais. The manner by which this wine is produced and the vineyard it is sourced from makes this week’s pick an elegant and delicious bottle to be enjoyed now or for your holiday dinner table and priced at $32.99 you may just have to pick up a couple…

Food News

I’m not one to follow daily beef prices but that’s almost what it’s coming to, “Prime” Prime Rib $21.99lb. (today’s price) which will only go up from here on out while Choice Bone in Rib Roasts will run at $18.99. Our cut off for this particular cut is December 18. Beef Tenderloin, Salmon Filet, Lobster Tails, Crab or Shrimp will be able to be ordered up to Dec. 21 for a next day delivery on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Food Feature of the Week

On Tuesday I received 5lbs of Fresh Sole and on Tuesday evening, it was gone. So, today I just got in an additional 5lbs. This fresh delicate fish is best with butter, lemon and capers and makes for a very easy and tasty dinner and at $11.99 per pound you can’t beat it. Two new oysters this week, Kumamotos from Washington and while not cheap ($28.00 per bakers dozen) these may be the finest oysters that you have ever eaten. The second is Acadian Pearl, described as the oyster for people that thought they never liked oysters from New Brunswick, Canada makes these close contenders for another top oyster and priced at $18.00 per bakers dozen means that you can…well buy and eat more. You want a mixed selection, we can do that as well.

Final Thought

I’m too old and too tired to eat anything but the best Beef, Pork and Fish that I can find and I’m certainly too tired to drink anything but wines that I enjoy and sometimes are a splurge. I’m looking for happiness in every glass and in every meal. That’s the enjoyment for me that’s still out there and that’s what we’re trying to bring in every week for you. Keep safe, drink well, eat well and sometime, sometime in 2021 this that we’re all going through will become a memory.
