News 🗞
Nothing going on this weekend besides playing the OSU game on Saturday, as we've spent the majority of the week recipe testing for the Alternative Dinner on November 4. This is our favorite event of the year as it truly is a wine pairing dinner where the food and the wine carry equal weight and it's all about how they work together. Do you recall a month or so ago when I mentioned that we tasted the line of Escudo Rojo wines with a rep and subsequently brought in all 9 of their offerings? Well, we loved them so much that we decided to craft this dinner around them. That's right, a Chilean-themed four-course dinner using the Escudo Rojo wines. A little out of our wheelhouse and requiring more research than normal... but we're very happy with what we've come up with and hope that you will be too. Fresh seafood, juicy steaks, and lots of contrast in both color and flavor. There are spots still available, so stop in or give us a call if you'd like to try something new with us. By the way, look at that picture... should we all be going to Chile?
Wine Feature ⭐️
Going with a delicious red that we tried at a show a couple weeks ago, Domenico Clerico 2022 Capisme-e Nebbiolo. Nebbiolo is of course the grape that produces Barolo, the king of Italian wines, but you can find many Nebbiolos from outside of that famous region that deserve some acclaim of their own, particularly the ones from Langhe, like this one. This $29.99 bottle with 92 points from Wine Advocate "is a forward-facing, fruit-driven wine with a medium-plus body and strong structure." It's made to be an introduction to Nebbiolo, with the name being Piedmontese slang for "understand me" ...it's crafted to help you understand what Nebbioli is and can be. What's interesting about it is the lack of oak -- it's aged in stainless steel and clay amphorae, so what you're tasting is the fruit and the earth. "Aromas of crushed cherry, violet, and rose petal jump from the glass, backed by subtle notes of earth and spice. On the palate, it’s fresh and lifted with lively acidity, smooth tannins, and a touch of mineral tension that reminds you it hails from serious terroir."

Wine Pick 🥂
If you've been around this area for a while, you know Charles Woodson and have probably tasted or at least seen one of his wines before. If you're newer to the area and/or life, Charles Woodson is a Fremont native who played 18 seasons in the NFL and now, like most celebrities, has a line of wine. We decided to bring in Charles Woodson's 2021 Intercept Red Blend for a few reasons. First, it's from Paso Robles, and I know we have a lot of fans of that area. Paso has been putting out some truly fantastic wines over the past several years. We have several Cabs from Paso, but this might be the first Blend. Second, it's a great price at $18.99 a bottle. Finally, it's just an easy-drinking, big red for the fall. "Aromas of berry cobbler, savory herbs, and caramelized sugar. The wine is full-bodied with fine grained tannins on the mid-palate and a long spicy finish." Lots of fruit, lots of baking spice... and lots of grapes. Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Malbec, Tannat, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot, and Graciano. If ever there was a kitchen sink wine, it's this one.

Oyster Selection 🦪
Back to Malpeques and Fleur de Mers this week, both from Prince Edward Island. The Fleurs are a little bit smaller with moderate salinity, a nuttiness, and a fruitiness to them. The Malpeques are pretty large this week, with moderate brine, a vegetal note, and a crisp, sweet finish.
