Beer Tasting

In reference to the upcoming Iowa caucus we’ll start this Saturday’s tasting off with two big brews from that State. #1 Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue, a Citra Hop Classic Ale and then jump into Pompeii their big single hop IPA. Numbers 3 and 4 will highlight Columbus Brewing Company with their Uncle Rusty, a big bold Imperial Red. Number four SOHIO Stout their limited release chocolate, coffee and caramel deliciousness

Dan’s Feature

My feature this week is Gorman Brothers 2013 Albatross Cabernet from Washington. At $89.99 it’s not a daily drinker… I was allowed to buy the final four bottles of this wine with no future allocation pending. This reserve-level Cabernet-made from grapes sourced partly from 35-year-old vines-is lovely in its wealth of detail. A brambly, elegant mouthful of berry and cherry flavors mingles with a note of rose petal. The finish is soaked in graphite, with length, grip and finesse. I’ll buy almost anything from the Red Mountain district of Washington and when you throw in the name Gorman, well I’m going to buy it. I’ve got four of these to sell, first come first served, this is a fantastic wine that almost makes the price look like a bargain…

Dan’s Pick

The 2017 Antillo Guado al Melo from Bolgheri, Italy is my pick for this week. I’m a fan of this bottle and it won’t break the bank. At $23.99 you can enjoy this Italian blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Petit Verdot and try what is now known as a Super Tuscan…The Bolgheri region of Italy is a true micro-climate which suits itself well for the production of many non indigenous varietals which allows them the opportunity to produce Sangiovese based beautiful rich wines with Cabernet and other blending varietals, making these wines something rather special. Pizza and pasta to beef and pork this bottle will accompany darn near everything. Try out one of these bottles and see for yourself…

Friday/Saturday Special

It’s the Hopslamwich! Shaved ham, bacon and tomato stuffed inside a European sub roll covered in Hopslam Fondue and then baked in the oven. This behemoth of a sandwich is a knife and fork delight…Make sure and order one of these beauties, you’ll be glad you did.

Final Thought

It’s all about the beer this week, we always get excited for the one and done yearly brews. There’s always something new coming out and we enjoy making these releases an event. We hope to see you this weekend, stop in and enjoy a tasty beverage with us, we always enjoy having you as a guest!

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
