Store News 🏬

In case you missed it, on Monday I left and am now in France!!! Chelsea and the girls will be running the show, so make sure to stop on down and show them some support. With the holiday season fast approaching, we also started stocking up on some wine accessories that were delivered on Wednesday. They're for the holidays, yes, but truly they make great gifts any time of year.

Wine News🍷

It was a busy week last week, part of which was tasting a lot of wines with a distributor last Thursday. I know, I know, my job sounds exhausting. We picked a handful of new finds and some old favorites, and they are now in the store for you to enjoy this week.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

This week's feature is Flycatcher 2022 California Red Wine from Frog's Leap in Napa. I have always been a big fan of Frog's Leap for a few reasons. It was started by John Williams (formerly of Stag's Leap) and Larry Turley (now of Turley Wine Cellars) on an old frog farm in Napa. John was one of the winemakers when Stag's Leap won the famous Tasting of '76 in Paris, and Larry was an ER doctor. They made their first batch of wine in a hot tub... you can't make this stuff up. They really care about the land and take great care of their employees too. John Williams is just a good guy. This wine is pretty darn good as well. This 2022 vintage is the inaugural vintage of this wine. It is 33% Zinfandel, 31% Petite Sirah, 22% Merlot, and 14% Syrah, and tasting notes describe it as such: "Warm, generous fruit from the Zin combines with great backbone and spices from the Sirah-Syrah sisters. Merlot (grown at high elevation) adds acidity and an earthy-floral top-note that helps invite the next sip." Priced at $39.99, this wine is extra special because you won't find it for purchase in any stores, so stop on down and grab one here while you can. I don't think it will last long.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Our pick this week is a delicious Willamette Valley Chardonnay from Stoller Family Estate. Stoller 2021 Dundee Hills Chardonnay is a shining example of Oregon Chardonnay, which is getting more and more attention these days. It only sees a tiny bit of oak and thus showcases a lot of fruit. "This wine opens with ample aromas of wet stone and lemon tart. Firm vibrancy braces the palate, conveying tension alongside satisfying flavors of persimmon and starfruit. The finish is clean and taut with fading plusher fruit flavors lingering on the palate. Though intriguing now, this wine should unravel in complexity for years to come." Nothing wrong with that... if you are a fan of unoaked Chardonnays, this one is for you. We have this $25 bottle priced at only $19.99, so it's a bargain to boot.

Food News 🐟

We tried to order some delicious Dry Aged Pork that we heard about last week, but unfortunately it was out of stock. We will try again this coming week. In the meantime, Chelsea brought back in Fresh Burrata, which we will serve it at the bar this Friday and Saturday on Basil Pesto with Dorati Tomatoes and Crostini. If you remember and miss this from the old food menu, then head on over here this weekend.

Oyster News 🦪

This week we again have Pink Moons from Prince Edward Island. They are an “oyster that will seduce any oyster eater. They are a culinary favorite because of their glistening shells, balanced flavor, and beautifully consistent shapes. For a full flavor experience, enjoy these oysters with a nice sparkling rosé.” What luck... we can help you with both the oysters and the sparkling rosé.

Final Thoughts 💬

My thoughts are a little preoccupied right now with all of the sights and tastes of France. That said, I am as always looking for inspiration that I can bring home to all of you. I've been looking EXTRA hard in Champagne, if you catch my drift...

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
