New Years Eve we’ll be open
10am to 5pm!
WINE NEWS…
We are restocked for New Years Eve! If you’re like me, the end of 2020 is something to drink about.
Dan’s Wine Feature
This week’s feature had to be CHAMPAGNE! For many years now, we’ve prided ourselves on bringing in fantastic grower-produced Champagnes. Our favorite over the course of time is an easy choice, Mousse’& Fils L’or D’ Eugene from Cuisles, France. The Mousse’ family has been growing grapes, making wine and producing Champagne for 97 years and guess what, they’ve figured it out. This tasty Champagne is comprised of 80% Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir, all red varietals to a white Champagne that is absolutely delicious. Normally, we would be out of stock of this item by this time but this year we were able to continuously bring this bottle back into the store. How good is it? Well, lets just say Chelsea was very excited to receive a magnum of this for Christmas…
Dan’s Pick
My pick for this week is simple, Sparkling Wine! When you find a bargain, you share it and that’s where I’m at for this week’s pick. Under the Stars Chandon Method Traditionnelle Brut from California. This limited edition sparkling wine comes in a 1.5 ltr for $36.99 and is worth every penny. Simply put, one bottle of bubbles is usually not enough and when you can have two in a single bottle for this price… you’ve got a true bargain! Let’s be honest, we need to send this year out right and a bottle of this will help end 2020 and celebrate 2021!
Food News
This week we’ve taken the guess work out of what to have for dinner on New Years Eve. We’ll be packaging up a dinner for two, with a 375ml of Roederer Estate Champagne, 2 fresh 8oz center cut Beef Tenderloin Filets, 2 cold water Canadian Lobster Tails, 2 potatoes Au Gratin and a quarter pound fresh Asparagus. How much? $75.00. These will be a preorder item and we look forward to sharing these very special dinners with you.
Food Feature of the Week
I’ve got to go with Pork for this week’s feature. If you’re a traditionalist, you’ll be having Pork on New Years Day. Pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and some type of green vegetable to adorn your New Years Day meal. Our Kurobota “Frenched” Tomahawk Pork Chops are the best Pork on the market. Berkshire hogs, animals from a farm where pigs can be pigs are brought to us to be shared with you. These come as a full rack of 8 ribs or cut down by us in any number you may want. This is the pork I’m sure I was able to enjoy as a child, and these heritage breed hogs are almost a red, decadent, silky cut of Pork that will leave everyone happy and will be a great start to the New Year.

Final Thought
It’s been a different sort of year… If someone would have told me that the bar and restaurant would be closed for 10 months of this year I would have assumed they had spent too much time at our bar. So here we are, selling wine and beer with a cooler up front full of Prime Beef, Fresh Fish, and Heritage Pork. Ordering Oysters, Scallops, Lobster Tails and anything else that looks good. Never imagined that was the direction we’d be going. I always knew 2020 would not be a good year financially and I was correct, but one thing that 2020 definitely showed was how gracious all of you have been. Were there times that I felt purchases were being made when nothing was really needed? Yes. Did I feel that many were shopping out of concern for the well being of the store and our employees? Yes. There have been many events in recent years that have made me question the basic humanity of man but there was one thing that gave me faith this year, and that was all of you… I may never be able to thank all of you but rest assured, you alone were our positive note for 2020. From all of us to all of you…Thank You, Thank You, for thinking of us and for helping us get through these difficult times.
Please, please continue safe practices and please bring a mask when you come visit us at the store.
Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
