Is St. Patrick's Day even allowed to be on a Sunday? šŸ€

Updated: Mar 15

Seems like a bit of a waste...

Come celebrate with us early on Friday and Saturday, or get what you need to celebrate at home this weekend.

Hours of Operation

Monday - Tuesday, 10am to 6pm

Wednesday - Saturday, 10am to 8pm

CalendarĀ šŸ—“

March 15 (Friday) - Fish Fry -- Round 2! We had such a great turnout last week that are doing it again and trust me we have plenty. PLUS we decided to offer an alternative for those of you who might want something different: a Fried Shrimp & Lobster basket. Two delicious options for you this Friday, 10am-8pm.

March 30 (Saturday) - Lamb-O-Rama is back! Come enjoy a plate of rotisserie smoked leg of lamb, orzo salad, pickled vegetables, and a side of naan. We always have a great time during this annual event, so hope to see you there. No reservations needed, 12p-8pm.

April 8 (Monday) - LUNAR ECLIPSE!!!!! šŸŒ–šŸŒ—šŸŒ˜šŸŒ‘šŸŒ’šŸŒ“šŸŒ” We will be open until 8pm on this auspicious Monday with special seating including additional patio space, themed food and drink specials... everything we can think of, and believe you me, we've been thinking about it for a while. Call and reserve your patio table today ($75) before they sell out! We have no idea what Findlay will be like on this day, but we can't wait to find out.

NewsĀ šŸ—ž

Easter is coming up on us quickly, so be thinking about what food you'd like on your table. We have a few options in mind right off the bat (but we're happy to order in anything you might want or need). The first is of course the Smoking Goose Lake House Rum Ham. This ham is going to be the best of the best -- cured for 30 days in rum with ginger, lime, pineapple, mint, and star anise, and then smoked over cherry wood. Can you imagine the burst of flavor in this thing? You can get a 1/2 ham (feeds 4-5) for $75 or a whole ham (feeds 8-10) for $135. Orders are due March 18 for these. For those who might want something else, we are also ordering in Veal Racks and boneless, rolled and tied Legs of Lamb. Veal six-rib racks go for $16.99 per pound and Lamb Roasts at the same price make a nice alternative. And then of course if you want a seafood option, we always have our Fresh Atlantic Salmon at $18.99/lb. Call and let us know what sounds good to you.

Wine FeatureĀ āļø

We're heading to Italy for this week's feature, Supremus 2018 Toscana. This is a baby Super Tuscan comprised of 75% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. What makes a Super Tuscan a Super Tuscan? It's simply a wine produced in the region of Tuscany that uses non-native grapes like Merlot and Cab. This particular wine was created by Italian wine specialists Neil and Maria Empson with the help of enologist Franco Bernabei. They set out to really highlight the unique and complex terroir of the region, and they succeeded. This wine has "a sumptuous bouquet of red fruit, violets, chocolate and cinnamon; full-bodied and mouth-filling flavors sustained by sweet tannins." All the grapes are from vines 50+ years old, and James Suckling gave it a solid 92 points. At $29.99, this bottle lives up to its price, maybe exceeding it... isn't that the best kind of wine?

Wine PickĀ šŸ„‚

This week's pick continues our Women's History Month selections with Anne Amie 2022 Pinot Gris. Anne Amie is located in the rolling hills of the Yamhill-Carlton District and on the steep hillsides of the Chehalem Mountains, both nestled in Oregonā€™s Willamette Valley. They specialize in the Pinots: Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris. Pinot Gris is the same grape as Pinot Grigio, if you're not aware; it just has a different expression in the terroir of Oregon as opposed to Italy. There are some similarities but some differences as well... Pinot Grigio is lighter and crisper with high acidity and citrus notes, while Pinot Gris is fuller with a richer texture and more tropical and pome fruit notes. Winemaker Gabriela Sepulveda Vignes says of this wine, "Our Pinot Gris is an elegant expression of this versatile varietal. Intensely aromatic powdery floral notes give way to a palate of Asian pear, Meyer lemon, and rose petal. Balanced and crisp, this wine is a great match for many dishes." She's right that it pairs well with many different cuisines, but it's also just a great springtime wine and only $21.99.

Food FeatureĀ šŸ¦ž

What do we have for you this week? Why, it's Fresh/Frozen Drake's Lobster Ravioli! Lobster knuckle and claw meat is coarse chopped and added to caramelized onions, sherry, herbs and spices, then blended with fresh whole milk Impastata Ricotta cheese for a gourmet delicacy. Serve this up with a garlic butter sauce, a lemon cream sauce, or a white wine sauce with a side salad and some crusty bread... yum. At $32.99/lb, this is a definite treat for one of these final Lenten Fridays.

Oyster FeatureĀ šŸ¦Ŗ

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty on theme this week with these oysters. We have two for you, Irish Points & Sand Dunes. The Irish Points are obviously in anticipation of St. Patrick's Day this weekend. The Sand Dunes are to celebrate Dune 2 in theaters. Just kidding, it's also for St. Patrick's Day because they are enormous and they are GREEN. Irish Points are from Rustico, PEI and are some of the cleanest, most consistent, and most well-balanced oysters to come out of the Atlantic. They have a sweet brine and smooth mineral finish and pair well with... what else? Jameson! Which we got for the bar, don't worry. The Sand Dunes, on the other hand, are from the Souris River in PEI. They have full, springy meats with a melon rind sweetness and a savory lingering finish and are as green as I've ever seen an oyster ever be. Come try them both!

Final ThoughtsĀ šŸ’¬

So the Fish Fry last weekend went way better than anticipated... we sold out around 5pm. Oops! We sincerely apologize to anyone who came in and was disappointed. To make it up to you, we've decided to have another Fish Fry this Friday, but BIGGER and BETTER. We'll have even more Walleye than last week, plus an additional option of a Fried Shrimp & Lobster Basket. I mean, does anything else say St. Patrick's Day like fish and chips? Hope to see you then.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
