It’s Art Walk

Friday’s Art Walk, start here for your Date with Dora and remember we’ll be serving pizzas all day long!

Hours of Operation

Monday – Saturday

10am to 6pm!

Calendar

**Remember Porchetta & Patio this Saturday**

May 6 - Art Walk we’ll be open till 8pm to share this evening with you. Stop in for DORA drinks and if you are hungry, we’ll put a pizza on for you.

May 7 - It’s Patio & Porchetta Saturday! A succulent pork belly wrapped around the loin and stuffed with sausage and Italian seasoning… we’re going to roast it, dress it with truffle mayo and arugula then serve it on a toasted naan. Or, if you’d like, we’ll do it as a porchetta pizza. This all-day love affair with the pig will be from noon to 6pm! Also on the cold drink front, we’ll be serving Peach Bellinis! Cooperative weather or not, this will be the first Saturday for the 2022 Patio season…

Store News

Proud and honored to have a new beer this week that is so much more than just a beer. No, I can’t say it correctly but it’s a beer and a beverage with a message. Loosely translated it says “Fresh Barrel” and this 1.42ltr bottle has a QR code which allows you to make a few choices. We won’t be able to get this again as the brewery most likely no longer exists, this Eastern Ukraine beer is here for this week to purchase, enjoy and to show your support.

Wine News

Plenty of new wines in this week… apparently, I had a very hard time saying “no, thank you”. A minimum of 16 new wines and still counting. There are some new 2021 Rose’s but there are also plenty of new and interesting wines. Stop in and see or better yet try some of these wines and see why we’re so excited to be bringing them in.

Dan’s Feature

Caymus 2020 is finally in…we’ve been out of this wine for a couple months and are finally glad to see its back in stock. How does this vintage taste? “In typical Caymus style, #48 is deep mulberry in color with aromas of blackberry jam, cassis, currant, and cocoa. Straight out of the gates it delivers a hefty punch of fruit to the palate followed by tantalizing notes of anise, cocoa, cherry vanilla, tobacco, and a hint of pepper. While abundant in tannins, it retains a softness that guarantees a silky mouthfeel and sultry finish”. Just as the notes read “straight out of the gate” this wine is spectacular now and will continue to improve in a cellaring situation. Either way, this may be the best $89.99 purchase you’ve made in awhile. While still limited, we were lucky to get a case in today, so stop in and pick one of these for Mother's Day… I’m quite certain that it would be appreciated.

Dan’s Pick

My pick for this week is Vegas Colección 2020 Privada No. 36 Blanco from Spain. This crisp white Segovian blend is comprised of 60% Verdejo, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Viognier and at $18.99 very much worthy of a porch seating. If you choose not to have this on the porch or the patio, that’s fine because it pairs with seafood, pasta and sushi. Tasting notes describe this wine as “Intense yellow color, with greenish tones, clean and bright. On the nose appear aromas of great intensity, where we can find passion fruit and guava, typical of Sauvignon blanc; aromas of orange peel and orange blossom that are typical of Viognier; and varietal notes of Verdejo such as fennel and anise. The palate is an intense wine, full of flavor, very fresh thanks to its exquisite acidity, with a long, persistent and very fruity finish”. Yeah…that sounds about right. I thought it was a pleasant change from all of our traditional white varietals, having a hint of sweetness or maybe that’s the passion fruit and orange peel/blossom that I’m picking up. Either way, it’s a new great little Spanish Blend for you to try out. PS The label itself is worth the price.

Food News

We’ll be transitioning our freezer merchandiser up front for more of a Spring and Summer item list. You’ll begin seeing more pork products be they our bacon, bacon wrapped pork tenderloins, new sausages and bratwurst or Burratta and a new line of snack pretzels. We will still carry our fresh frozen pastas, potatoes and vegetables. Buddy's pizzas will always be there but with the season comes a new purchasing model. Keep an eye on our changing selections for you.

Food Feature

Besides our Mother's Day Meal Kit we have plenty of Prime Cuts down here for you and yours. New York Prime Strip Steaks and Prime Ribeyes are always one of our features. In today Super Fresh Fjord Trout from Norway, Fjord trout fillet is a shade darker and firmer than other salmonids. It is slightly more sensitive to heat, treat it right and you’re in for a succulent delight. You can treat it more or less exactly like salmon, just take extra care not to overcook it. Throw a fresh fjord trout on the grill for a zesty and savory experience, or bake it in the oven with some butter, lemon and onion for a mellow and flavorful feast. This fish was ordered Monday for an arrival to our purveyor on Wednesday for our delivery on Thursday morning. We’d have to be in Norway for a fresher version than this.

Final Thoughts

Sure, tomorrow is Art Walk and Saturday we’re putting the patio out (most likely the rain). Both of these will be celebrated, however, the biggest celebration this week is Mother’s Day! We all have a mother to be thankful for hopefully in person and if not in memory. Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. In the United States, Mother’s Day 2022 will occur on Sunday, May 8. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Jarvis would later denounce the holiday’s commercialization and spent the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day traditionally involves presenting moms with flowers, cards and other gifts. While I understand everything on the history of this event, I do believe the conclusion should read “traditionally involves presenting moms with flowers, cards and other gifts like lots of wine, steaks and lobster tails. Now we’re talking Mothers Day!

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
