Dan’s Wine Feature
This week’s feature is Baby Blue from Blue Rock Vineyards. The wine is a great example of an American Bordeaux, comprised of 47% Cabernet, 28% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Syrah, 6% Malbec and lastly 4% Cabernet Franc. Priced at $32.99 makes this a great selection for Fathers Day. The objective of the blend is to deliver a wine that is delicious and accessible with velvety tannins, fine aromatics, balance, and length. Winery notes describe this wine as follows, “the addition of Merlot to the Cabernet Sauvignon base brings sweetness and silky tannins, the Cabernet Franc adds complex aromas and Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Syrah round out the palate with warm black fruit.” To put it simply, this is a great, easy drinking full-bodied red that I’m sure Dad will appreciate.
Dan’s Wine Pick
My pick for this week is the 2018 Couly-Duthiel “Les Chanteaux”. This Chinon based wine is a beautiful example of Chenin Blanc. Grown in the chalky soils that this area is known for allows Couly-Duthiel to create a lush, rich, full bodied example of what Chenin Blanc can be. Dry and full-bodied with touch of acidity makes this a white that can definitely be enjoyed by itself or certainly with anything you choose to put on the table. When we first tasted this new white we were told that the price would come in at $31.99, while not looking for a new French white at this price point we decided to go ahead and bring in a few bottles anyway. When the invoice arrived yesterday we were elated to find a new price of $19.99, we like these kinds of surprises, three thumbs up from the tasters on this one…
