It’s Hopslam Week!

Besides a great seasonal release from Bells this week, we’ve got a few other new items to share with you…

Our hours,

Monday – Saturday 10am to 6pm!

WINE NEWS…

We’re slowly drinking through each country to find some new wines for the racks and at the same time restocking and bringing in some new wines to share with you.

Dan’s Wine Feature

Stolpman Vineyards, 2017 Para Maria de las Tecolotes will be my feature for the week. This Santa Barbara blend is about equal parts Syrah and Petit Verdot making it…delicious! Besides being a very unique label, this $22.99 is made for an empty glass. Deep, dark and rich this new wine is described quite well in the following notes, “the previous vintage landed on Enthusiast’s Top 100 list. Satiny and supple, layered with lavish dark cherries with just a hint of dried sage, when it comes to reds like this, bearing “Stolpman” on the label, we recommend stocking up. Stolpman’s reds drink beautifully during white tablecloth dinners and impromptu happy hours alike.” Put 50% of Petit Verdot in a bottle especially alongside Syrah and slap a cool label on it, I’m sold. Maybe the best bottle under $25.00 we have in the store at the moment.

Dan’s Pick

After being our top seller for the holidays, Mousse and Fils Champagne is this weeks pick! With French tariffs coming into play we don’t know what to expect on future shipments, so while we have this fantastic wine at $52.99 it’s time to grab a few and put them away. This predominantly Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir blend has always been the stores favorite and by your purchasing habits it appears to have become yours as well!

Food News

We’re taking “reservations”, actually orders for this year’s version of our annual Valentine’s Day Dinner. With Valentine’s Day falling on Sunday this year we decided to prepare a wonderful fully equipped meal kit (pictures and cooking instructions included) for a fantastic three-course dinner. From a glass of sparkling wine with your appetizer to begin the evening, to a gourmet inspired entrée of course with a staff selected bottle of wine, to an elegant dessert, we’ve got you taken care of. Having hosted a dinner here every year we realized that this year we wanted to continue this tradition with a twist. Please call and reserve this special dinner for two, quantities will be limited and we’re excited to share this meal with all of you.

Food Feature of the Week

New in this week is Monkfish, commonly referred to as the poor mans lobster. We just brought in another 10 pounds of fresh Salmon today (the first 10 pounds sold out in a day and a half). I like bringing in a new fish each week and while this week is Monkfish I have a couple others waiting in the wings. Keep an eye out for something new in our seafood selections each week.

Final Thought

Normally I would have been returning from a week of a relaxing alcohol infused vacation, but as I said last week there’s nowhere to go. So instead we have been working on some new ideas, new plans for the future and a new display in our cooler featuring all of our European meats and cheeses. While we reserve these products for the charcuterie boxes, we also have these specialty products for sale by the pound. There’s always something new happening here at the Wine Merchant, stop in and see for yourself, hope to see you soon.

Please, please continue safe practices and please bring a mask when you come visit us at the store.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
