Dan’s Wine Feature
Les Pouches Cabernet Franc from the village of Saumur in the Loire Valley of France is my feature this week. “Les Pouches” rouge has a beautiful, deep ruby-red color and a bouquet of red fruit (blackcurrant and raspberry). This wine is attractive and easy to drink. It is quite fruity and a bit spicy on the palate with the elegant, soft tannins that characterize it. With a holiday weekend ahead of us this was my obvious choice, just like the wine makers notes above this is a perfect match to anything you’re serving this weekend. Dan’s Wine Pick of the Week
When I first ordered the above red I received 11 bottles of Cabernet Franc in the box and one lone Chenin, I knew at that time I was dealing with a small wine maker. Les Pouches Blanc is 100% Chenin Blanc, something the Loire Valley does best. This is an irresistible dry white wine made from Chenin Blanc grown in the tranquil Loire Valley. Five winemakers from the Les Pouches area worked closely together to blend selected white Chenin Blanc grapes from ten small parcels of land to create this cuvée. Bone dry and crisp, it ends with a surge of ravishing acidity, medium bodied with pleasing intensity. When searching out information on this bottle I was surprised to see prices from $17.99 to $22.99, not real sure why because we have this beautiful, crisp, dry white all day for $12.99. Pick up a few for the weekend, they’ll make you happy…

Food Feature of the Week
It’s the 12oz bone in, frenched, fresh pork chop! These have always been one of my favorites. Having not been available the past few weeks I was excited to see them on Tuesdays truck. Seasoned how you like, placed on a hot grill, cooked almost as you would a fine cut of beef, removed and rested and you’ve got a mouthful of fun coming your way, accompanied with a couple of our jumbo sweet potatoes and you’ve basically got dinner.

Final Thought
I know we all have a lot on our minds this Memorial Day weekend but please take a moment and remember what this day is supposed to be all about…the sacrifices that so many have made in our history to provide us with what we all enjoy. No need to get political on blue state, red state, stay at home orders or any current state of affairs. Just take a brief moment and give thanks to those who stood in our place and protected what we still enjoy.
