Wine News

We’ve got some new ones this week for you to try, whites, rose’s and big cabs… Check out the following list or better yet stop in and see for yourself.

Dan’s Feature

Piña Napa Valley Wolff Vineyard 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is my feature for this week. This Yountville Cab is tremendous and at $92.99 it had better be. Robert Parker describes this 94+ wine as follows, “The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Wolff Vineyard from Yountville is another serious wine, with an inky purple color, wonderfully sweet crème de cassis and blackberry fruit, some licorice, truffle and incense. It is full-bodied, rich and very impressive. Drink it over the next 15-20 years”. While I respect his 15 to 20 year suggestion, I drank one yesterday and I say, ”Why wait?” It drank beautifully and will be even better served alongside a great steak or chop which coincidently we happen to have.

Dan’s Pick

We still have a few Rose’ days ahead and I decided to choose Stolpman Vineyards Para Maria’s de las tecolotes 2020 Rose’ from Santa Barbara, California. With 12lbs of fresh Nova Scotia Salmon in my cooler, I wanted to pick a wine that would pair beautifully with it and I believe I have a winner here. The winery describes this wine as follows, “the 2020 Para Maria de los Tecolotes Rosé (affectionately named after Ruben’s wife and partner, Maria) is once again 100% Syrah, salmon-pink in color, with a great nose of ruby red grapefruit and red apple. Bone-dry and low in alcohol, it is a classic Rosé very much like the first one Melissa and I discovered on a trip to the south of France many, many years ago. But this one is probably a little juicier than I ever remember it. Vibrant and roaring out the gates”! It’s no secret that we enjoy our Rose’s down here and we’re always willing to share. This $17.99 bottle will not disappoint you.

Food News

Last week I had a conversation with a young family on what we’re trying to do, which of course is sourcing products that are procured for the finest dining establishments. After purchasing a few items, they returned the next day and agreed with me that the above statement was correct and bought us out of Kurobuta Chops! That’s why we do what we do here, make certain that what you’re buying from us are the same items that would be served to you at a fine dining restaurant. Mind you, last Friday and Saturday’s comments weren’t the first and anytime that information is shared with us we know we’re moving in the right direction…Thank you.

Final Thought

Yesterday, we said farewell to Tara. While we were fortunate enough to have her with us the past 3 years, she has been a regular in the downtown beverage scene for many years. I had tried to hire this young lady since 2014 and was only able to accomplish that task at the end of 2018. The experience, smiles and constant motion she brought was exciting and is going to be very hard to replace. While we’re happy and excited for her new move to Hawaii, it still makes it difficult to say goodbye. From all of us and of course so many of you we all want to wish you the very best! From all of us Aloha…

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
