Store News

We’re preparing ourselves for a long weekend down here and hope you are as well. Those who are working on this year's holiday, my condolences. Those who have a long weekend in front of you. get on in here and stock up. It’s a long hot weekend and we’re here to fill the cooler with refreshing drinks and, of course, pack your grill with some amazing items. Either way, you need to stop in and pick something up... be it red, white or blue we’ve got you covered.

Wine News🍷

We have a few new wines available and a great new Sake product to share with you this week. We always enjoy bringing in new products and obviously have you in mind every time we taste. Torbreck Woodcutters is one of our newcomers and will be a favorite paired with steaks or chops. The Wandering Fool we’re just happy it was finally released. And sure, I know what you’re saying another Rose’, well of course I always have a hard time saying no to a great Rose’. All of this week’s addition will be welcome on any table. Stop in and see what else we have in stock for you.

Dan’s Feature

My feature this week isn’t necessarily a new wine but one that debuted about six months ago. Jenni Wagner, the daughter of Caymus’s Chuck Wagner, tested the waters and teased us a bit with the introduction of The Walking Fool. With the opportunity to purchase one case, it didn’t last long... finally the full release is upon us! “The latest red blend from winemaker Jenny Wagner is named for great-great grandfather Johannes Glos who arrived in Napa Valley in the 1800’s. and he soon earned the nickname “The Walking Fool” for his good-natured personality and easy grin as he walked down into the Valley from his homestead on Howell Mountain. This blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah is a silky red with an earthy bouquet of wood, cigar box and sweet spice. The palate is lively with juicy raspberry and tart cranberry over meaty, espresso notes. Mouthwatering acidity speaks to an easy pairing for a serious feast! This is a gem worth a mile walk, uphill both ways, and will have you grinning the whole time”. We enjoyed having it as an early release and we’re even more excited to have it available for you once again. For once an item came in lower than when it was first released, we have plenty in at $37.99 a bottle down from it’s original $39.99!

Dan’s Pick

Yamhill Valley Vineyards 2021 Rose’ of Pinot Noir is my pick for this week. Soroca Distributors of Dayton stopped by this week and shared a favorite of theirs and you know what... it may become a favorite of ours. This 100% Estate McMinnville Pinot is a real charmer and at $19.99 a fair price for such. “Ariel Eberle is well into her second decade making wine for the Burger family, and her touch with rosé from their 150-acre vineyard has been decorated along the way. Ariel focuses the rosé on Dijon clone 115 fruit from two distinct blocks established in 2000 – Rainbow above the winery and Boot in the lowest corner of their plantings. She continues to dial in a pinkish salmon color, and the effusive nose offers hints of strawberry shortcake, guava and Rainier cherry. Inside, its delightfully bright as cherry leads the flavors, picking up a nibble of cherry skin in the midpalate before the finish of blood orange and boysenberry. It’s an ideal example – fruity yet bone-dry and exceptionally food-friendly”. I’ll pretty much agree with everything above. This is an exceptional bottle of Rose’ that would pair with our big beautiful pork chops or definitely with our Copper River Salmon that just came in today!

Food News😋

Copper River Salmon is back for maybe it’s last allocation. It’s been a real pleasure to have but today’s delivery may be our last for this year's run. This week starts our relationship with Demkota Ranch Beef out of Aberdeen South Dakota and as we mentioned last week it’s important for us to know where are our products come from. So this week we brought in a couple of their short loins and will be hand cutting some great NY Strip Steaks for the weekend. Demkota is a national leader in the humane treatment of cattle. They believe that as ranchers they have a duty to take care of the animals that provide for and sustain our way of life. Their facility was designed under the guidance of Dr. Temple Grandin, renowned Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State. These are the things we look for in bringing in new products to the store, the best upper mid-west pasture raised beef raised by people that still believe in delivering a quality product and still at a fair price.

Food Feature 🥩

Great steaks, great chops, unbelievable burgers and sausages, chicken quarters, if it can be cooked on a grill it’s our feature. Oh yeah, throw in those pre-cooked ribs they’ve become a new store favorite. What else can I say, it’s almost like this store was set up for the fourth of July, great grillable selections and the best beverages possible to keep you cool all through the weekend.

Final Thoughts

Saying goodbye to Dani this week, while short lived as it was she never met a stranger and she will certainly be missed. It will be a day short next week, so we’ll be getting some of our food staples on Wednesday rather than Tuesday and as far as new wines and beers we’ll just have to wait and see. We wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July and hope that we can look a bit more towards that which we have in common rather than that which we tend to disagree upon.🎆

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
