It's the earliest Spring since 1896...

I remember it well.

Hours of Operation

Monday - Tuesday, 10am to 6pm

Wednesday - Saturday, 10am to 8pm

Calendar 🗓

March 30 (Saturday) - Lamb-O-Rama is back! Come enjoy a plate of rotisserie smoked leg of lamb, orzo salad, pickled vegetables, and a side of naan. We always have a great time during this annual event, so hope to see you there. No reservations needed, 12p-8pm.

April 8 (Monday) - LUNAR ECLIPSE!!!!! 🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔 We will be open until 8pm on this auspicious Monday with special seating including additional patio space, themed food and drink specials... everything we can think of, and believe you me, we've been thinking about it for a while. Call and reserve your patio table today ($75) before they sell out! We have no idea what Findlay will be like on this day, but we can't wait to find out.

April 13 (Saturday) - Second Saturday, details TBD. We might still be recovering from the eclipse.

April 19 (Friday) - We're not sure what we're doing this day yet either, but we will be doing something to celebrate 419 Day alongside the rest of Downtown Findlay.

News 🗞

First tornadoes and then snow and then crazy winds... what next? I don't care because it's Spring and I'm going to start thinking like it regardless of what nature decides to do to us. The 2023 rosés have started to flow, which means there's no turning back now, full steam ahead. Which leads to me to... Lamb-O-Rama! Our official transition into Spring here at the Wine Merchant. Mark your calendars for this annual event on the last Saturday of this month. Why yes, that does so happen to be the day before Easter because I like to make things difficult for myself. Stop on down and get your fill of Smoked Lamb with all the fixings -- no reservations required for this one. Will I come up with another event before then? Who knows, but for now my sights are focused on March 30.

Wine Feature ⭐️

This week's Feature and Pick kind of go together, and you'll see why. The feature is Boedecker Cellars 2016 Stewart Pinot Noir. Boedecker was founded in Oregon in 2003 by owners and winemakers, Stewart Boedecker and Athena Pappas. The couple, with no experience in the wine world but a love of Pinot Noir, slowly and carefully grew in size and skill and built an urban winery in Portland in 2008. With their passion for hands-on winemaking and the environment, they partner with some of the very best sustainable vineyards in the Willamette Valley. They both love Pinot Noir, but they prefer two very different styles of it. This one is obviously Stewart's style: delicate, pure, and refined. It has "dark lingonberry and cherry flavors and a soft, elegant texture balanced with a vivid core of acidity throughout." Another description notes sweetly spiced blueberry biscuits... yes, please. And having already aged for 8 years, you know this bottle will be rich and nuanced. It can be yours for $44.99.

Wine Pick 🥂

The pick is... you guessed it, Athena's style: Pappas Wine Co. 2018 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Pappas is a branch of Boedecker that focuses on more natural wines. They call this one their "Pinot for the people," and it comes in at $27.99. Athena likes rich and earthy wines, and this bottle is just that. It's got notes of bright black cherries, ripe plums, and oolong tea. It's light and bright and just a wee bit dusty to balance out the fresh fruit. It's supposed to pair perfectly with a Nirvana album... I'll let you test that out for yourself. But the real question is, do you prefer Stewart's or Athena's style? I say... try them both and find out!

Food Feature 🐟

Only one more week of Lent to go, so this is our LAST Lenten food special! Today we got in a fantastic fish for you, Pacifico Striped Bass for $23.99/lb. Striped Bass, also known in the wild as rock fish or stripers, are large fish with black stripes running along their silvery metallic sides. The company who sources this fish, Pacifico Aquaculture, is the only dedicated Striped Bass hatchery in the world, and it has the highest Best Aquaculture Practices rating possible. The fish are raised in open-sea pens in Baja California and processed nearby for the smallest carbon footprint and lowest prices possible. This fish has a semi-firm texture and is as versatile as it gets. You can eat it raw in sushi or sashimi, you can grill it, poach it, bake it... anything you want. I think the ideal would be a nice ceviche with some fresh fruit, lime juice, onion, etc., and of course a bag of our Fiesta Grande Tortilla Chips.

Oyster Feature 🦪

Oysters this week are East Point Oysters, just in today. These are a Delaware Bay oyster, which we don't usually go for, but with the size and look of these, we just had to give them a try. These are a larger oyster with firm, plump meat. Harvested from the inner bay, they have a more mild flavor than their briny friends that come from the cape shores. These are ones that would be ideal for baking, so come on in and try them Rockefeller or NOLA style.

Final Thoughts 💬

Who knew you loved Fish Fries so much? I know we ran into some hiccups... it never fails to happen, and it never fails that we learn a lesson or two from it. That said, you all really showed up for us for our last few events, and we are very grateful and hope you enjoyed them. That's always our primary goal, and as long as you keeping coming, we'll keep getting creative around here and brainstorming new ways to do it.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
