Store News

It’s Oberon week…We have both 6 packs and, of course, a quarter barrel on tap. We enjoy the release of this beer and are always happy to share it with you. On another note, I apparently misread my inventory on Oysters…so surprise we have a couple hundred down here with your names on them and what goes better with a fresh pint of Oberon than a couple dozen?!? Oysters on the half shell, Rockefeller or buttered and garlicked up. You can always have them your way here at the "Downtown Oyster Bar"

Wine News

New Rose’s are trickling in and there are a few other new products that spoke to us this week.

Dan’s Feature

We have always enjoyed wines from the Priorat of Spain. While some are terribly expensive and others are a bit more affordable, both are hard to come by these days. The Slates of Bonmont 2017 Priorat comes in at at a great price of $17.99. This Wine & Spirits 93 pointer is a wonderful bottle to allow you to taste a classic Priorat for a very reasonable price. Slates of Bonmont is a blend of Merlot, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah & Carignan creating an intense ruby color. This elegant wine features aromas of currant, blackberries, vanilla and dark chocolate. It’s a savory wine with attractive silky texture, well-structured with ripe blackberries, mocha and spice. O.K. so yes I cut and pasted the description… I just like sharing wines like these with you. Priorat is a region that many in Spain said would never produce great wines, well let me tell you, they were wrong. This Bordeaux like micro-climate has become a region to reckon with. Try one of this region's wines and see for yourself.

Dan’s Pick

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a Pinot Nero in stock so I decided to bring one in this week. What is a Pinot Nero you ask? Well, it’s a white Pinot Noir. White wines can be made from reds easily, all you have to do is to keep the skins from having contact with the juice and the vintners of Azienda Agricola have done just that. Looking for something different just to enjoy by itself, with antipasto or possibly fish? Well, here’s something new for you to try. This 2019 Ca’ Montebello will be great addition to the table. We’re always excited to share new and different wines with you and this Italian white Pinot Noir is no exception. Pick a few up for some serious fun wine time in your upcoming future and try something new.

Food News

Don’t forget the Easter Ham!!! These special hams are available for order for another week. Either 4-5lb or 8-10lb hams from the Smoking Goose in Indianapolis are still available!

Well, I did it again…Snake River Farms Black Wagyu strip loins are back in stock!

Food Feature

Besides the Oysters… It’s obviously the prime cuts of beef we have available down here for you. I’m not buying these that often and when I ordered it last week the answer was OOS (out of stock). Low and behold though, they showed up... 31 pounds of the best beef I have ever encountered. These, once again, won’t last long and if you had one from our last order and want another come on down! If you missed out, well now is the time to pick one up!

Final Thoughts

March 24th…it’s been 10 years now since this photo was taken. Most probably on this date in 2012, I was in the store, hard hat on working on inventory loss of…well, damn near everything. We’ve been through some interesting times down here, floods, fires and even pandemics... but you know what, we’re still here enjoying what we do and are just glad that these days are beginning to look a little brighter. It’s always fun to reminisce but sometimes better to look forward to what’s coming next. See you soon!

PS Congratualtions to Tara! She is now the new assistant food and beverage manager for the Four Seasons Resort Oahu, Hawaii! We are all very proud!

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
