News 🗞

T minus one week until the 4th of July, so we've started stocking up on everything you might need. We have the essential 3 Bs -- Brats, Burgers, and Buns -- as well as Prime Stripes, Ribeyes, Chicken, Whole Tenderloin, Salmon, Halibut, and more of those amazing Teres Major steaks we got in last week. If you didn't get a chance to try one, now's your chance. So stop in sometime this weekend and grab everything you might need. And while you're here, you may as well stay for a pizza. Greek Pizzas all weekend while supplies last. It will be our flatbread with Lamb, Feta, Tomatoes, Red Onion, Olives, Arugula, Pepperoncini, and a nice housemade Tzatziki. Greek flavors on an Italian food for the 4th of July, you say? Absolutely. Nothing more American than a little bit of fusion. It might be the most patriotic thing you'll have all year.

Wine Feature ⭐️

The feature is a wine we got in last week, Folly of the Beast 2021 Pinot Noir from the Central Coast of California. This bottle is a rarity in that it's actually 100% Pinot Noir, which is fairly uncommon in California where they usually blend in some other grapes for color and flavor. This one has only Pinot Noir, no chemical additives, no fake color, no added sugar. It's about as clean as California gets. The winemaker says, "It’s our mission – our madness, if you will – to consistently deliver impossibly good 100% Pinot Noir at an unrivaled price. To create this white whale of the wine world, we went to California’s Central Coast - where the foggy mornings and cool evenings have a favorable effect on the 'heartbreaker grape.' A certain amount of skill and tenacity is essential to produce a Pinot of this stature. Aged in partially new [French] oak to enhance notes of sweet spice, this round Pinot shows notes of cherry red fruit, dark berries, and forest floor. Folly is an elegant wine that will be a showstopper at your next dinner party." It would be a great option for anything with red sauce or cured/grilled meats. We have this bottle in at the "members-only" price of $16.99.

Wine Pick 🥂

This week's pick is the sister wine of the Feature: Folly of the Beast 2019 Chardonnay. Chardonnay, like Pinot Noir, thrives in the Central Coast climate of California. This one is well-balanced and elegant with notes of citrus, apple, peach, and vanilla, the latter of which comes from partial aging (30%) in that same French oak, with the rest of the fermentation taking place in stainless steel. That means you'll get a Chardonnay with a mellow oakiness but also lots of crisp fruit. It would pair well with anything with a cream sauce, rich seafood, or chicken. Again, 100% Chardonnay and no additives. And this one is priced even lower than the members-only price online -- only $14.99 a bottle.

Food Features 🐓

Gonna focus on the chicken this week... we've got two fantastic options for you. First, Fresh Whole Chickens from Michigan Family Farms for $22.99. These chickens are Amish, which means they are all natural, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, free range, non-GMO, and humanely raised. Everything you could ask for, really, in addition to just being very, very good. Second, we have some packages of Frozen Boneless Skin-On Chicken Leg & Thigh. This is the same type of chicken we used for Huhn in June, so I can confirm that it cooks up moist and delicious. I must be crazy because I am letting 2-packs of these go home with you for only $4.99. This is a great deal I got that I am passing along to all of you. Do anything you want with these chickens, but there really is nothing like crisp chicken on the grill if you ask me.

Final Thoughts 💬

Did you see the crazy cloud formation on Tuesday? I'm lucky it happened before my cataract surgery because I would have turned right back around and told them they messed up my eye... it seems that summer storm season is upon us, so fingers crossed the weather stays clear for next Thursday. Either way, we're here and ready for you until then.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
