Beer Tasting

Flying Dog and Weyerbacher make up this week’s tasting; first we’ll start with a beer that brings back fond memories, Raging Bitch a Belgian style IPA. Number two is Offensive (no not the beer that’s its name) a new big IPA from them. Number three takes us to Weyerbacher to taste their 23rd Anniversary addition beer a Golden Stout brewed with cascara, coffee cacao nibs and a touch of mosaic hops. To finish things off it’s Weyerbacher’s Imperial Pumpkin, yeah it may seem early but ya got to taste them while you can. Stop in Saturday and try a few new beers with us…

Feature Item

Upon closing the deal in the purchase of this business 12 years ago I was told to pick a bottle and open it, the bottle I picked was a 2004 Caymus so in true historical form I’m going back to that bottle for my feature this week. Sure it’s a different vintage and certainly the price is a bit different but the wine…but the wine… still tastes as good as when it did while the ink was drying! Chuck Wagner is celebrating his 45th bottling and that’s what you see on the cap. If you’ve never had Caymus this wine is one that epitomizes California Cabernets, rich decadent and smooth a great choice for celebrating, well..an anniversary. No, I’m not pouring this next Friday, but if you have something to celebrate, this $89.99 Cabernet is a perfect fit for the bill. Just one of the something specials we have down here for you…

Dan's Pick

Mi Terruno “Expresion” Extra Brut Argentina, Mi Terruno translates to my terroir. We’re proud to have this new sparkling wine on our shelves and equally proud to say that we’re the first in Ohio to carry it! You know how I am with my sparkling wines and this will be a welcome addition, this new bottle is comprised of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Chenin Blanc, hey all three varietals I’ll drink! What I liked best about this wine was the fact that it was an Extra Brut, dry as a sparkling can be and at $16.99 a value for such a fun wine. Mi Terruno is ready to celebrate any upcoming event or simply an evening in front of the TV with some buttered popcorn…I love sparkling wine, versatile and vibrant, that’s what makes it so good…

Friday & Saturday Sandwich Special

O.B.L.T., hmmmmm, Ohio produced pork for the Bacon, Lettuce from..I’m not sure, Ohio grown Tomatoes. So I guess it’s really Ohio Bacon & Ohio Tomatoes for this weeks sandwich. Let’s be serious the lettuce is just there to try and make us not feel guilty… Hadn’t planned on this but at least two times in the last week this was our lunch and it dawned on me that if it’s good enough for us we should share it with you!

Final Thought

While you may be looking forward to one last hurrah, enjoy it to its fullest, but take a moment to reflect on what this day actually stands for. You don’t have to be a member of the labor movement to appreciate those before you that helped make this country what it is today. There was a time in all of our histories that there were those who stood up for making certain that a better life was available to all, so make a toast and pay thanks to those who brought us this day.

Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
