News 🗞
I know everyone is going to be busy this weekend with the Balloon Fest and Careyfest and who knows what else, but you BETTER make some time to squeeze us in because we're going hard this weekend. Friday is the Summer Art Walk, and we're pulling out all the stops. The bar will be open late until 9pm with not one but two Friday Food Specials, Prosciutto & Melon and Peach, Brie & Bacon Flatbreads. They're exactly what they sound like, plus some fresh herbs and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. If you think either of them sounds odd... that means you should try it. In the store, we will as usual have a Wine Tasting -- four wines for $20 -- and we're featuring the art of not one but two artists, Mike Reynolds (painting) and our good friend Blandey Doll (astrophotography). The very next day (because the fates are against me, I guess)... that's right, Oyster Day!!! We brought in 1200 oysters from three different origins, and there will be special prices, special wines, and of course a special oyster style for one day only. All day long while supplies last, and it is first come, first serve, so time yourselves accordingly. This is one of our biggest days of the year, and we can't wait to show you what we've got. And if you want an amazing Cabernet, come and talk to me... have I got a deal for you. Too hot to even write about.
Wine Feature ⭐️
This week's feature would go great with oysters... huh, what timing. Reverdy & Fils 2024 La Villaudière Pouilly-Fumé. While Sancerre is obviously the most famous Sauvignon Blanc in France (thanks, Taylor Swift), Pouilly-Fumé is a close second. While Sancerre comes from the left bank of the Loire River, Pouilly-Fumé comes from the right, and you'd be surprised what a difference that can make. These wines are fuller bodied, denser, and they have a distinct smoky quality due to flint in the soil that isn't present across the river. Priced at $29.99, this wine "is a pure 100% Sauvignon Blanc expression that leans into the appellation’s hallmark tension between citrus brightness and flinty minerality. The wine opens with vivid aromas of lime zest, grapefruit pith, green apple, and white peach layered over crushed stone, smoke, and a subtle herbal lift. On the palate it is crisp, linear, and finely textured, showing vibrant acidity, a cool mineral spine, and a long, saline finish that carries notes of citrus peel and wet limestone." I will try to have a bottle chilled on Saturday waiting for the right person...

Wine Pick 🥂
We finally found a Primitivo we enjoy to bring into the store, the Vecchio Marone 2024 Edizione Privata. It doesn't say Primitivo on the bottle, but don't be fooled, this is 100% Zinfandel from Puglia in Southern Italy. As one of Italy's hottest and sunniest regions, Puglia produces reds that are rich, dense, and bursting with juicy flavor. When compared to California Zinfandels, a Primitivo like this one is a little earthier, more structured, and has a bit lighter of a flavor profile with notes of dried cherry, fig, and a very important hint of orange that brightens it all up. But don't worry, it's still a Zinfandel in all the best ways. In this bottle, "cherry, blueberry, chocolate, and ripe dark fruits. Juicy, silky wine, with well integrated notes of oak. The mouthfeel is good -- balanced, complex, with a great length and a fruity finish." Translated from Italian, but I think it did okay. Don't sleep on this one, $19.99 a bottle.

Oysters 🦪
What will we have this Saturday? Well let me tell you. A full 24 cases of oysters came in today, eight of each variety: Pink Moons, Malpeques, and Wellfleets. Pink Moons, our house favorite, the perfect cocktail oyster. From the nutrient-rich waters of New London, PEI, these are petite, crisp, and clean, best on the half shell. Malpeques, harvested wild from Malpeque Bay, PEI, are "the world's tastiest oyster." They're medium in size and brine with a meaty, savory flavor. Wellfleets are the most popular Cape Cod oyster out there, large with intense brine and a seaweed finish. Try a Sampler Platter and let us know your favorite.

What does it say about you when the most exciting part of your week is the delivery of a new trashcan lid? 🤔 Luckily the rest of the week should bring much more excitement what with everything going on. If you can call getting carpal tunnel excitement...
