News 🗞

We're back to a 2-event weekend again this week... we've got something for you both Friday and Saturday. Friday is of course the Spring Art Walk. We will as usual have our Art Walk Wine Tasting in the store from 5-7pm. That's four wine samples for $20. The bar will be open late until 9pm with a food special of Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza. A flatbread with beefy queso, more cheese, bacon, tomatoes, and a housemade burger sauce drizzled on top. Which I forgot to add when I tested it out for lunch today... You'll have to imagine it on there in the photo we took. I may or may not throw some lettuce on there, we'll see. And then all evening, 5-9pm, we'll be featuring the art of Jeanne Sullivan Guerin at Painted Glove Studios. Then Saturday is May 3 which means........ nothing to most people. But for us, it's el Tres de Mayo! Our celebration of Cinco de Mayo, a couple of days early. We will have Frozen Strawberry Margaritas in the granita machine and some Mexican beers, and we'll be serving Ahi Tuna Tacos all day long while supplies last. Two flour tortillas with ahi tuna and a fresh topical salsa, and I think we'll have a couple of sauce options for you to make it interesting. We hope you can join us for our little fiesta.

Wine Feature ⭐️

I know I featured a Beaujolais not too long ago, but we got a new one at a fantastic price... plus, I just love them. Pierre-Marie Chermette 2023 Griottes Beaujolais, $22.99 a bottle. Chermette is a fifth-generation winemaker who has maintained the strict traditions of winemaking that came before him. This means practicing organic with no herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides, using indigenous yeast, and farming as sustainably as possible. With five generations on that land, some of the vines are over 100 years old, producing low yield but high, high quality fruit. Chermette and his wife Martine have consistently produced some of the best Gamays out there for the past two decades. This bottle is 100% Gamay from the Beaujolais AOC in the south of Burgundy. If you haven't had a Gamay, it's a lighter bodied and fruity red that's a wonderful choice for warmer weather. "The wine is rich and fresh on the palate with fresh fruit and a great mix of minerals and acidity. Widely versatile with food or simply on its own, serve with a slight chill. This is quite simply great wine."

Wine Pick 🥂

This week's pick is a varietal I don't normally like... but this bottle may have changed my mind: Boffa 2022 Roero Arneis, $19.99. I bet you still have zero idea what this wine actually is. Arneis is a white grape from northern Italy, specifically Barbaresco in Piedmont, land of Barolo. For that reason, it is sometimes called "White Barolo" and was on the brink of extinction in the 1970s until a handful of wineries revived it. It's a medium-bodied white typically with less acidity than most Italian whites, which is maybe why I haven't liked them in the past, but the acidity in this bottle is quite nice. It is fresh and delicate with notes of stone fruit, citrus, and a touch of almond and jasmine. It's well-balanced and structured and would pair with a lot of things... seafood, pasta, sushi, etc. I enjoy getting wines that you won't find anywhere else, and this is one of them.

Food Feature 🐟

Believe it or not... we got another round of Halibut Cheeks! Fresh Halibut Cheeks for $23.99/lb. If you recall, these are considered a delicacy... usually reserved for the fisherman in Alaska who catch them. Light, delicate, almost scallop-like in flavor. I don't know how I was able to get these again so quickly after the last time, but I won't complain. And some of these this time are massive... I'd like to see the fish that produced cheeks this size. Or maybe I wouldn't. We've also got a fresh batch of Salmon just cut up today, and the Dry Aged Pork Chops are back in stock.

Oyster(s) of the Week 🦪

Four oysters last week, and we ran out of almost all of them... we'll see how this week goes. We brought in everyone's favorite, Pink Moons, the small and balanced little guys from PEI. We also ordered Eagle's Nest oysters from Duxbury, MA. "Duxbury Bay, the harbor and home of generations of fishermen, is also the home of Eagle’s Nest Oysters. Located in the elbow/bend of the bay, Eagle’s Nest Oysters grow along the mudflats of a natural habitat that blends the fresh water of nearby springs with the salt water of the Duxbury bay making for a delicious oyster." They are rich and savory with a buttery-briny flavor, and I'll be honest, they're just enormous.
