Nothing special this weekend...

Just the same old thing… great beer, great wine, oysters, pizzas, charcuterie, and our smiling faces 😀

Hours of Operation

Monday – Saturday

10am to 6pm

Calendar 🗓

July 29 (Saturday) - Tuna Tacos!!! Sashimi-grade tuna served with a mango-pineapple salsa. These tacos are delicious, and if you’ve tried our new tuna, you’ll understand why they're so darned good.

August 5 (Saturday) - It's National Oyster Day, we’re looking at some favorites for this special event. We’re picking out 300 of each, plus an extra 100 of our favorite. Three different oysters, three different ways: Uncorked Style (modified Rockefeller), NOLA style, and of course our favorite… on the half shell.

August 12 (Saturday) - Thinking about going to Italy in 2024? Gianni will be here to answer questions and meet those going or who are looking to go in 2024. To celebrate, we’re roasting a Porchetta once again, so make plans to come down here for a great Saturday afternoon!

September 8 (Friday) - Friday night Anniversary Tasting, 5-7pm. That’s right, Friday night wine tasting! Four wines, four different and delectable bites to enjoy with your wine, and a bar that’s open until 9pm serving some of your old favorites. It’s an anniversary after all (not however a statement on what’s to come).

September 23 (Saturday) - It’s Oktoberfest Findlay! Come downtown and enjoy the day, and then have a German-themed dinner with us. We’ll be taking reservations for this year's dinner, and there are 10 spots remaining, so give us a call and make those reservations soon!

Store News 🏬

Apparently I need to find another holiday to celebrate... thanks to every one who came out for our Bastille Day celebration. I had no idea it would be so successful. While there’s nothing special for this weekend, the calendar is getting bigger… as is our beer selection! It was a big week for new beers, so come take a look at what we got in.

Wine News🍷

Not a big tasting week this week, but we still managed to bring in a few new wines. Two new reds and two new whites round out this week's purchases. One of the new whites is a Prosecco that I can finally say is a dry -- this new Brut Prosecco will be a winner for those who enjoy dry sparkling. The other white is one for our Sancerre drinkers to try. While we’ve seen nothing but increasing prices on this French favorite, we finally found a somewhat of a bargain bottle to share with you. We’re always looking for items such as these, and always with you in mind.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

This week’s feature is Serial 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. This $25.99 Cab is a very rich (15.1%), very ripe, and yet unusually seamless and sophisticated. Tasting notes aptly describe this new wine as “having notes of redcurrant and black cherry aromatics flirt with cedar and leather showcasing this opulent wine. Decadent flavors of plum, fig and chocolate-covered blueberries provide a big, fruit-driven core. Serial Cabernet Sauvignon is silky smooth and finishes elegantly on notes of ripe cherries and wild berries. This could easily be mistaken for a Napa Cabernet at three times its price.” We like Paso wine, there’s no mystery there, and this bottle is appropriately priced and represents the best of what Paso produces. If you’re like us and enjoy the style, stop in and pick up a few for the weekend.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

My pick this week is a delightful new Sicilian white wine from Cantine Colosi. Their 2021 Grillo is a new, crisp, dry white wine that we haven’t had in our racks for a while, and something we just tasted and brought back in. This $16.99 white will definitely prove to be a hit at the table: while “certified vegan, this bright, savory white offers aromas of lime, white spring flower and Mediterranean herb. On the refreshing, tangy palate, crisp acidity accompanies juicy pink grapefruit, orange zest and peach before a salty finish.” Think of Grillo as a fuller, funky alternative to Pinot Grigio with a slight herbal note and bright acidity that will pair perfectly with all seafood, vegetable, and pasta dishes. Or of course, if you’d like to leave the food component out, that’s okay, too! For the dinner table or the patio, here’s a new summer wine for you to try.

Food News 🐟

We’re fortunate to continue getting in some great Alaskan Salmon for a reasonable price. Great seafood is something we continue to search out; be it fish, scallops, shrimp, or Sashimi-Grade Tuna, we’ll continue to bring in what you’re looking for. A few weeks ago, someone needed 10lbs of fresh mussels -- no problem. The next week, another asked for the same quantity of fresh Little Neck Clams -- done. No matter what you’re looking for, we’ll be happy to bring it in. Seafood this fresh can’t be found anywhere else in town, and we enjoy getting in those special items. Just let us know what you need, and leave the rest to us!

Food Feature 🥩

This week's feature is Dry Aged CAB Ribeyes. I got a great price on these at $18.99 per pound, and while they’re pre-cut and random in size, they mostly weigh out at under a pound, making these great cuts a cheap and cheerful dinner option... leaving plenty of cash left to pick out a great bottle of wine to go with them!

Oyster News 🦪

This week's oysters will be Duxburys from Massachusetts. These are larger oysters with kind of a difficult shell to shuck. Looking ahead to our August 5th National Oyster Day, we wanted to see how our new oyster knives work on some of the more challenging ones. We hope you have this date on your calendar because we plan on being knee deep in shells on that day!

Final Thoughts 💬

This month is going too darn fast… 10 days left, and then we begin to count the days until school starts. We’re already filling up reservations for our September events. Then on another note, why is Christmas in July in July??? July 25th marks 5 months until Christmas, so shouldn’t we be celebrating Christmas in June? 🤔 So to sum things up, time is moving too fast, and I’m confused as to why this contrived holiday is on the wrong date. That’s just a little inside peek of what’s going through my mind this Thursday.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
