WINE NEWS…

We’ve got a few new wines in this week, I’m not used to seeing so many out of stock (OOS) come our way. Whereas we’re doing our best to keep inventory up it’s been difficult to always keep the racks full. New wines of course are always great but we also want to make sure we always have your favorites in the rack. White wines we’re trying to bring in are those porch and patio bottles that go oh so well on a warm day. Reds, well anything that goes great with something off the grill. Keep an open eye down here because for every OOS there’s a new bottle moving right in.

Dan’s Wine Feature

Guardian “Chalk Line” 2018 Red Blend from Columbia Valley is my feature for this week, this $28.99 blend of Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot is a big mouthful of wine. Ever since we found out that Gorman Brothers wine wouldn’t be back for a while, we’ve been looking for something from this region as a temporary replacement and we finally found one. What happens when an ex-police officer and a crime reporter come together, you guessed it Guardian Wines. Each varietal bottling of their wines reflect their previous professions, Chalk Line, well I’m sure you get it. Others in their portfolio such as their Newsprint series include names like, the “Alibi” and “Gun Metal”, and others pay homage to their past. Chalk Line however should be something for you to look forward to in the very near future. Described by the vineyard as “their version of THE Washington blend featuring Cab, Merlot, and Syrah. With restrained elegance, this Chalk Line greets you with ripe black cherry, blackberry, and wood smoke. The aromatics carry over to the palate with deep notes of cherry pie, violet, vanilla, bitter orange, and rich baking spices in each sip. The mouth-feel is bold and dense. Although good now, this vintage is an age-worthy wine”. My suggestion…pick up a bottle, a great cut of beef from us, and age until Saturday night. I don’t have to be a policeman or crime reporter to figure this mystery out.

Dan’s Pick

El Burro Santa Julio 2020 Malbec Natural is my pick for this week. “El Burro Santa Julia is the first organic and natural wine from Bodega Santa Julia and reflects their mission to develop wines in an organic and sustainable way, coexisting with the environment instead of attacking it. It represents the maximum expression of the variety and its surroundings. Deep red color with violet hues. Typical aromas of Malbec, fresh fruit and a hint of plums and cherries. Great body and structure. Deep in mouth. Pleasant finish with a taste of plums jam”. While nationally priced well above it’s $14.99 price point, we’re excited to share with you this new presentation from Santa Julia. Malbec is the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats and I think we can also help you in that category. Stop in and we’ll set you up for a great dining and wine-ing experience.

Food News

We’ve got the rest of the picture painted now…you can add to your shopping list besides the protein and pasta selections. Haricot Verts (French frozen green beans), a loaf of Tribeca Bakery bread and for dessert new Gelato pints and Classic Spumoni Bombas…All of these items have been tried and tested and obviously approved. We want to have the whole meal ready to go home to your kitchen.

Still not sure what you’re having for Easter Dinner? Don’t forget our Dinner Kit for $49.99 that includes seasoned Lamb ready for the oven or the grill, rosemary potatoes, delicious haricot verts and of course two of Chelsea’s Carrot Cake cupcakes for dessert. We will continue to take orders through Monday March 29th!

Final Thought

Like everyone else over the past year, we’re adapting and so far we’re very pleased with those adaptations. Are we missing where we were over a year ago? Sure. Will we ever revert back to what we once were? Well I can’t say no and I can’t say yes. I can only tell you here is where we are at this moment, and that we enjoy each and every experience we have sharing great wines, craft beers and some of the best foods that we have access to. Looking forward to seeing you soon…

Pease bring a mask when you come visit us at the store.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
