Store News 🏬

We’ve been plenty busy down here, something between Santa’s elves working feverishly to prepare everything for Christmas and the Bad Santa having a very difficult day at the mall. My goal is to have an unbelievable jam-packed store for Black Friday. Christmas beers, wines, and assorted other items will be displayed and ready to be hidden in a closet until Christmas Day. On another note, we’re really sure how much Beaujolais will come in next week... I love surprises… We bought at least 6 different ones, and we’re just waiting to hear if they all made it over the pond. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we’re making sure we have all your favorites for the big holiday feast.

Wine News🍷

The biggest news here is Beaujolais Nouveau in a mere 7 days, but we’re also keeping a close eye on the Wine Spectator Top 100. With the top 9 already announced, we’re happy that we’ll at least have the #6 bottle in a few weeks. The #1 will be announced tomorrow, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed. The other ninety, we’ll just have to wait and see. While it’s always fun to see these lists, we have some pretty tasty wines that may never make that list but are certainly on our list, and we're always ready to share them with you.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

Caymus Vineyards 2021 California Cabernet is my feature for this week. It's not often that I repeat a Feature, but sometimes circumstances demand it. We were fortunate several months ago to get a case of this new Caymus product, and we sold out immediately. This week, we were allocated another case... just one… Priced at $64.99, it’s no bargain, but it is a great wine for a great price, and for those that are familiar with Chuck Wagner's wines, you know what I’m talking about. We have carried or currently carry everything that comes our way from Caymus, whether it be from Napa Valley, Suisun Valley, or now Fairfield, California. These new bottles are exceptional and won’t last long and most likely will not come our way again until after the new year. In regards to quantity on hand, we received twice as much as anyone else in NW Ohio. An exceptional bottle for an exceptional gift or that exceptional dinner or even the exceptional empty glass… Come in soon and pick up a few before they’re all gone.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Vouvray is a favorite for many during the holidays, and this year will be no exception. Barton & Guestier will be this year's producer here at the Wine Merchant. This wine, according to the producer, is, "Pale straw with green highlights. A seductive nose with lovely fruit aromas (pear, pineapple) and delicate floral notes. Smooth on the palate with a nice refreshing finish." Enjoy as an aperitif, with smoked fish, spicy food, creamy cheese, or as most around here do… with turkey! Vouvray from the Loire Valley is produced in a variety of ways, but this one is solid. I’ve noticed that dry white wine drinkers and sweet white wine drinkers both can enjoy this $16.99 bottle at any meal. Make sure to stop in and pick up a few of these for the holidays as they may just come in handy.

Food News 🦃

We’ve gotten some rave reviews on our new 8oz boneless Berkshire pork chops. The remarkable flavor from "The World's Best Pork" doesn't happen by accident or by convention. "This 100% Purebred Berkshire Pork is famous because of the care that is taken from the farm to the fork. They’ve invested in small Midwest farms, and they hand-select the strongest heritage purebreds for this project. Berkshire Pork is coveted for its tender bite, its flavor, and its succulent fats and juices, and is featured in some of the finest restaurants around the world." Priced at $21.99 a pound, we have them packed as two 8oz chops per package. This is an exceptional product that anyone who enjoys pork will certainly find delicious. Stop in and pick up a pack for dinner; we can probably suggest a bottle of wine to pair with them.

Oyster News 🦪

Savage Blonde Oysters are this week's selection. Savage Blonde Oysters are known for their smooth, blonde shells and clean appearance and taste. These tide-tumbled, northern PEI oysters are constantly jostled by the sea, which creates beautiful, strong shells perfect for shucking. The oysters are grown in floating bags, which are flipped out of the water every few weeks to dry the oysters and kill any fouling organisms and predators. Flipping the bags also tumbles them to thicken and groom the shells. Moderately sized at 2.75 inches, they’re perfect for half shell or from the oven. We only got a hundred in today, so plan on stopping in!

Final Thoughts 💬

Thanks to everyone who came to Tuesday’s dinner; we all had a great time. There are a handful of events left down here, and I’m sure I’ll think up something special for a weekend or two before the end of the year. Like this Saturday… we’ll have the oldest College rivalry east of the Mississippi: The 129th Monon Bell Classic on TV starting at 1:05, DePauw vs. Wabash. This is my must-see game every year --- GO TIGERS! Pizza, beer, and all the things that go well with a game. Stop in and visit... we’ll be here 10-8pm!

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
